Korfanty Saber Clinic/Wireless system

Hi,
I just got an email about Ed Korfanty's second saber clinic. Here is a link to the info. page http://www.oregonfencing.com/coachin...ree-clinic.htm

I talked to Arnold Mercado who went last year, he is highly recommending it. We have some kids from our div. who will be participating in the camp while this clinic is going on. This is the 4th year they have attended, and they love it.

One girl went to their June camp and she tells us OFA now has the wireless system for eight fencrs. They tried it out and said it was GREAT. Does any other club have the wireless system? It will be interesting to see it in use during the clinic.

On of the kids at the gym I fence at went to Ed's camp and got to use the wireless system. He liked it too.

I'm not sure I like the idea of the metal mesh undershirt, it sounds like a hassle.

It's not metal mesh, it's a panel of metalicized fabric, not unlike the lightweight lame fabric, sewn to the inside lower part of the shirt. It's needed to connect the system electrically TO THE FENCER. It's not much of a hassle, although the system appears to be somewhat sensitive to the shirt soaking through (and then needing to be changed). The hassle is the cost and the fact you have to have one (or more than one).

SG was showing their version of this idea at Summer Nationals. They used an elasticized leg sock rather than the t shirt. Seemed like a more workable idea to me.

The hassle in both of these systems is the flexible circuit things that go inside the mask which contain the lights. It looks cool, but it makes these systems incredibly fragile. Yet the FIE insists on something like it because they are paranoid about external interference with the system. With the StM and the SG systems, it's all self contained in the fencer.
