| Finding a club in Milan Hi everybody,
A friend of mine is in Milan for the summer, and he heard about a fencing club there called circolo di spada, but is having some troubles finding it. I know it's a bit of a longshot, but if anyone could provide information on it or any other clubs in the city, both my friend and I would greatly appreciate it.

| Club in Milan I posted your query on Schermaonline.com but I don't expect any answer today when 99% of Italy (a low estimate) will be glued on the TV screen watching the final in World Cup soccer with France.
Keep in mind however, that in Italy, and France, everybody is off in July and August on vacation, including fencers, and fencing clubs are generally closed. They have fencing summer camps in various and very nice locations outside the big cities.
I'll keep you posted. |

| I recommend contacting Dr. William Gaugler, Maestro di Scherma, at San Jose State University (San Jose, CA). He is familiar with most of the fencing academies in Italy. |

| No luck in Milano, but what about Pisa? I did not get any reply about fencing clubs in Milan open during the summer months. Following the Italian tradition everybody escapes the city and returns in September.
However, if anyone is interested in going to Pisa (and admire the leaning tower and other beauties and be much closer to a beach escape than Milan) the Scuola Maestro Antonio Di Ciolo (coach of Puccini, Sanzo, Vanni, Bianco, etc. and together with his son Maestro Enrico Di Ciolo of many foil, epee, and saber fencers) is open most of the summer for "adult" fencers, i.e., cadets and up, for physical and technical preparation and conditioning for the 2006-7 season, between 8:30 and 10 a.m., at Palestra Di Ciolo, in via Cuppari, 5, Pisa, Italy.
Anyone interested send me a PM and I will forward the request to Maestro Enrico Di Ciolo. |

| Gladius and everyone else,
Thanks so much for checking into this. I've already made sure my friend has seen the thread. I'll also see how easy it is for him to get to Pisa.

The answer is that none are but if anyone wants to go to Pisa he'd have the opportunity to learn something from the Di Ciolo coaches/maestri. I sure wish, as probably many others do, that I could go there and get some pointers from these legendary coaches if I were in Italy/Europe this summer.
Therefore, the info given could be quite useful...
