| Its an English language centric list. What is Sandokan? I have found a kid's Italian novel by that name. Was there a movie (Italian?). Rafael Sabatini (author of Captain Blood, Sea Hawks, etc., rules!). |

Besides the Crimson Pirate which is on there, I am partial to Disney's Blackbeard's Ghost. I think Peter Ustinov over-the-top matches Johnny Depp.

| Many reviews have said that Dead Man's Chest is essentially 2 and a half hours of eye candy and references to the first movie wrapped around too loose a plot and is little more than a set up for the third movie.
When someone sees it let me know if this is an accurate description.

| Depends on how you would define "little more than a setup for the third movie." I saw it last night at a midnight showing, and I enjoyed myself. I thought it was a fun movie, with a good cast and a good extention of the first. Yes, it had references to the first move, but I'd have been a little upset if it didn't. There were enough plot twists to keep things bouncing about, and visually, it was a gorgeous movie. Good fighting scenes, too. The plot was a little thin at times, but hardly threadbare. And a cliffhanger at the end that will leave you ready for the next one.
No, it wasn't high drama or Oscar-worthy cenimatography, but then, I'd have been disapointed if it had been. I think it captured most of the soul of the first one, expanded some of the characters' dramatic personae, and was fun to boot. And I barely noticed the time either.
If you enjoyed the first one, you'll like this one. If you've not seen the first one, rent it first. If you barely remember the first one, rent it, and watch it again.
My grades for it:
Visual effects: A
Character development: B+
Plotline: B-
Muscial Score: A-
Overal grade: B+

I can understand not going into a film expecting that and enjoying a film that doesn't have it, but to be disappointed by quality?

| It was an excellent movie, although I was so mad about the end because I wasn't going to see the third movie and since they ended the movie the way they did I have to watch it when it comes out. Did anyone see the extra scene at the end of the credits?

| It was a great fun movie and like Oso said, the time passed unnoticed. I enjoyed it and left smiling. And yea... I saw the clip at the end.
Not all movies need to be critically aclaimed in all categories... this one was definitely a Disney film of past - big, bright, loud, and cheeky. I noticed that they plastered the credits with the large Disney logo, instead of disguising it as another production. I think this one is pure old fashioned Disney - "damn the G rating, we've made a movie here!" |
