Bamboo stick fighting? |

IMHO Kendo is rather much about preserving heritage - i mean all these rules how to put on which part of the uniform. FIE fencing is changing faster and therefore further apart from it's brutal origin. But i have to admit that some people in my club would disagree.

Ray Park, who portrayed Darth Maul, is a black belt in both kung fu and wu shu, as well as being a high-level tae kwon do competitor. All the sword play is based on those Chinese martial arts -- which makes it a more Chinese based system, rather than the Japanese based system of kendo, that people in this thread apparently think that it is -- how they can make that assumption without being exposed to kendo or any of the other japanese based sword arts, I don' t know (BTW, I am an aikidoka that is also experienced in iaido, so I know Japanese sword arts.)
Numerous interviews with Ray Park talk about how he had to create a new martial art for this movie -- how it took its base from his experience, and added the swordplay aspect to it within the context of the Chinese arts.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Hay now, I took about 4 years of bushido, and a few sword lessons in that. But can't we just say that jedi sword fighting is self-taught, because noone knows who exactly teaches it in the jedi school.

| Actually, in the books following up on the movies, Luke makes a Jedi school. He does teach. Oh, BTW Chewi dies, he's hit by a moon.

| Great, a thread on my two favorite topics, fencing and star wars! To my understanding the original fencing of the first three movies were based on kendo, but as the newer movie concepts progressed, Lucas and his fight coordinator felt the need to use several styles of fencing in the movies. They felt that the Jedi will be skilled in many different styles of fencing by different fencing masters. I have read that episode II characters will also be using recognizable western fencing techniques. That will be neat to see, I think.
Qui-Gon-Jim, Jedi Master--Ha!!!

It's in the blood! Remember those little micro thingamagiggs, that live in a jedi's blood stream that contain a jedi's force or something like that? I think Qui-Gon explained to Anikin. Although knowing how to fight............? I think that it might be in the blood too. Nuts to the person who has the blood with the ability fight with a pogo stick.

| It was medi-chlorine, the medi-chlorine count determined how much of the force that each Jedi controlled. <img src="graemlins/fett.gif" border="0" alt="[The Fett]" /> <img src="graemlins/jawa.gif" border="0" alt="[Jawa]" />

I would say the Jedi's ability detemined the medi count, not the medi count the jedi's ability. They'd be like, a by product, but whatever. |

And before the movies theres a Gigantic school in this pyramid like temple on a planet thats one big city (can't think of the name). Its a Jedi school, and kids are suppose to be taken there before the age of 2. around the age of 13/14 theres a tournament, and jedi masters go there to seek a padawin, or an apprentice.
But I played a starwars video game, where you could control around 8 diffrent jedi... They each had a diffrent fighting style. A girl held the sword upside down. this other guy held it behind him, one guy held it with one hand with the tip down, another with 2 and the tip up... so they all fight diffrently.

| I still play the old jedi powers game for Play Station I. My girlfriend and I get a kick out of playing it together. The only problem is that she's a magnet for clifts

| The Temple is actually where Luke starts his school. It is a moon of Yoda's planet. The Temple is inhibited by a ghost which kills many of Luke's students untill Luke dstroys him.

In the trilogy, Darth Vader has 13,000, but before he became Darth Vader, Anakin had 27,700. Luke has 15,350. So you could look at it either way.

Yeah it might be courosant or whatever... I really didn't like the jedi game either.
Hay I just got dugeon siege, already beat it though. I'm trying to do the multiplayer over Zone Match, but my computer has a major crash after i try and get out of zonematch, which is really pissing me off. I'm actualy still waiting for the siege editor to come out, so i can recreate something like Lord of the Rings...

I hated this "medi-chlorine" or whatever explanation!!! Why couldnt Lucas leave the force to be just the force, without ELISA quantification???
Episode 1 was such a disappointment anyway <img src="graemlins/kane2.gif" border="0" alt="[Camo]" />

Actualy Medi-Chlorine isn't the force, they use the force to talk to you.

yeah, but who made up that list?
Also, apparently medi-chlorian is no match for a teen's raging hormone, that's why Anakin acts so stupid in episode 2. |

| Not sure if his sources are reliable, but the rest of the site (<a href="http://www.supershadow.com/" target="_blank">SuperShadow.com</a>) has some solid info, including an Episoe II script, so I'd tend to trust it. Perhaps a compilation from various reference books/novels that abound nowadays?
