| Recut the slot with a razor blade....teh steel's cheap enough that you can do it....you may have to use teh blade itself to back the screw out if you can't get the screwdriver blade in there.
And obviously, when you get the screw out, chuck it...it's worthless at that point.

Purple, you’re freakin’ awesome. That worked beautifully.

Yep....that's what SHE said!! It's happened to me a lot...and where do you think I learned it myself? Here (forgot who told me, tho)
The screws are just another problem the Euro makers don't want to spend the money to solve....particularly the Germans. |

| Sam, you should have suggested something to help in the future.
For German screws, I tape the blade differently then with other tips.
For all Foils, I have one piece approximately 3 - 3 1/2" and one piece 3/4 - 1" long. For German, I also have a piece 1/8" wide by 3/4 - 1" long.
The first piece starts from a little below the screw holes and down the blade.
For Germans, I then put the small piece over the screws giving them a little extra protection.
The last piece around the barrel.

| When you really, really, really, have the problem and you don't want to discard the tip and rewire.
Take a Dremel and a 1/32 inch engraving tool and bore down through the middle of the screw. It is almost too easy because you have to be careful not to mess up the barrel and tip.
Then futz around with a teeny jeweler's screwdriver and get the rest of the screw out.
But don't wait that long. Keep checking your German tip screws and discard them before they get that bad.
Just before a U-19 finals in Austin, Joe Fisher had that problem with his favorite (and next to last) Foil whose spring had gone flop-bot. I did get it out and fixed in his 10 minutes between bouts. But then he went and beat Greg Chang, my team mate, in the Gold.
