Array Waaaayyy off topic, yet fun! I've talked about drum corps often enough, but i finally found a site to give some people at least a tate of what I went through almost 20 years back!
Go to http://www.vicfirth.com/news/DCI2001/congrats.html and go to the bottom of the page. There are a bunch of downloadable video files of drum lines practicing their parts. In particular, check out the last one, The Cadets going through their closer, Bizet's "Farandole" These were probably shot near the end of the season, and they're cleaner than a preacher's sheets!
I often joke that the snare head are FIEs, since they have kevlar in them! -

Array Drum corps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sam , you magnificent geek!
I doff my propeller beanie and bow low to your non-conformist greatness.

Array Please explain how a corpse manages to play a drum. Use the Shift key, people! Keyboard manufacturers everywhere are ineffably saddened when you ignore what they made just for you! -

Now that's gotta be the nicest compliment I've gotton in years Thanks, Paolo. Are you anywhere near Hackensack? I think the Cadets are still based out of there, unless they moved somewhere else in Bergen County. When I marched against them (1984 Blue Devils, Concord, CA. They beat us by 1/10th of a point!), they were out of Garfield.
We did their home show and actually practiced at Garfield HS...with the 12 foor high concrete wall around the place, I felt like I was practicing in prison! -

Array Sam, thanks for the link!
I didn't know there were other people in the world who knew about or were interested in drum corps. My roommate in college was a member of the Phantom Legion, and I try to catch the competition in Ypsilanti (Eastern Michigan University hosts it) every year.
I still don't know how they know when to move, and where... Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Y'know, it's scary how many fencers have also heard of drum corps. One of my teammates played baritone for the Racine Kilties in the 70s. It's one hell of an activity. Thank God I'm not marching a modern drill! What they're doing out there is frightening! Similar Threads -
