I thought either someone told me or I read somewhere that b/c it's out side and b/c of the glowing epees this cannot be an official USFA "ranked" tournament, is this true?
Characteristically, I had been trying too hard, and remembered again that wonderful piece of advice given by a French thinker: Trouve avante de chercher--Valery, it was. Or maybe it was Picasso. There are times when the most practical thing to do is to lie down.

I believe outdoor tournaments can be within USFA rules. Glowing epees, probably not. I'll leave that up to our division officers, who are more knowlegable than I.

Ratings are not a priority for this tournament. It's more about having fun and putting on a good show.

BTW, there's an article about the tournament in our local paper:

Why football and cheeleading, rather than fencing? Don't those big sports have enough already?

Yeah, it does seem backwards, doesn't it? Then again, it's Pop Warner's field and facilities, so it's our way of saying thanks.

Now that I think about it, we could probably learn from their success and benefit from their experience.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I have to add my two cents.
Pop Warner is a Youth football organization that stresses Academics and Teamwork.
It is proably one of the finest youth organizations out there. They operate on donations and it is a great cause.

Take it from a guy whose four sons played there and I coached for a good many years.

The tournament should attract a lot of young football players and with luck intrest them in the sport.

Unrelated to funding and donations. Uhm, what happens if it's raining?

Then you find out just how water resistant that FIE gear really is.

Umbrellas in the non-weapon hand. If that doesn't work, we'll reschedule it.

Why? Glowing epees with lightning in the background would make a spectacular photo. Would an insulated handle protect one from a lightning strike?

You just better hope that ground line can handle a lot of current.

Honestly, if it started raining, I wouldn't fence on grass. It's too slippery already.

I would go and do this, but you seem to have misplaced it on the wrong side of the state... and I have to go visit family. :-/

Meh, just bring your cleats. I do whenever I go to an outdoors tournament.

The last one I was at wouldn't have allowed us to use cleats, and it's moot anyway as I don't have a pair.
