Photos of Flying Flickers at Flickershutter I had the pleasure of shooting some amazing action on Sunday. These 137 photos are the keepers from just four bouts--one in the round of 8, the semis, and the final.
This gallery introduced the multi-camera technique for shots of both touches. In pro baskeball there are about 23 cameras, most on fixed mounts, that fire in unison (they must in order to catch the arena strobe illumination) whenever the master shooter squeezes off a frame. Such a system makes a lot of sense in fencing.
These photos were taken with a modified Sony DSC-R1. It's combination of fastest shutter lag among non-industrial cameras (a true 7mS, although I had it set to 12 mS because of some interfacing glitch), ease of handling, and excellent photo quality make it the first decent choice of camera for this application. http://flickershutter.com/June%2018,...HMF/index.html
Enjoy!

Array Excellent photos, thanks!
Were there more weapons than foil fenced? By the way, here's a great example of how names on jacket/lamés should not look. -

Array That is some awesome camera work. Those are probably the coolest fencing pictures I've ever seen.
Seeing the blades at those exact moments is like watching a bullet impact against something in super slo mo. It's like another thing completely.

There are surely hundreds (if not thousands) of other names that need at least one lower case letter. -

Array Interesting to see the 's' bending on impact of some of the touches.
I seem to remember someone on the forum did a study on flicking and came to the conclusion that the majority of his hits did the same thing and accounted for a number of non-registering hits. -

Not to be nitpicking, but there's a rule against lower case letters but no rule against adding a space between letters.
And I will not let myself be drawn into a rules discussion. I'm sorry I brought this up, now please enjoy the excellent photos instead!
(I certainly did, even though it was 'only' foil. ) -

Array Very cool pictures. Shows a lot of detail. I am starting a separate thread regarding rules that will link to some of the photos here. I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. -

There are surely hundreds (if not thousands) of other names that need at least one lower case letter. Agreed. I really don't see the point in prohibiting a single lower case letter with certain names. Frank Pratt
