| Foot in Mouth Disease I inadvertently called someone 'promiscuous', when I meant something entirely different.
My apologies. |

| Exactly what word were you looking for when you misspoke "promiscuous"?
Promissory?
peripatetic?
round-backed slattern?

Nah, but it helps if you have a particular aversion to being called a prositute....

| Well, some of us were at Melihop's graduation party where there was a brief seminar on how to be a prostitute! |

I would imagine that there are more people who want to BE prostitutes than want to be CALLED prostitutes.

| I was merely poking fun at the fact that in a thread started due to a typo, 'prositute' is another in the long line
Also, I fully expect that many of those who are prostitutes (by legal definition) prefer to be called other things (escorts, ladies of the night, madams, whatever). And I expect that many of them consider themselves to be something else, in their reality. I have not yet had the benefit of a discussion with anyone 'in the industry,' and am myself in no rush whatsoever to do so. However, it is common for many people to refer to others with no relevant criminal (or so called 'immoral') activities as ho's, whores, sluts, etc., all of which are close synonyms for prostitutes, and some people seem to enjoy being referred to that way. I would even postulate that some groups may have effectively 'reclaimed' the word and use it in a positive sense amongst each other. Can't see it myself, but I wouldn't be shocked.

Not sure prositute is the first thing you call a guy in a miniskirt. (If I could afford the tickets, I expect I'd usually call them Eddie Izzard). |
