Array Fencing.net Store Here's my dilemma: I've got a $35 gift certificate to fnet, except I have no idea where to start. I don't really know much about the vendours presented (such as FDN or Absolute), so I don't know if the quality of their stuff is any good. Can anybody help me out? (Also I own no fencing equipment whatsoever. Nada. Nothing. Zilch.) -
Get a glove and breast protector, is my advice. That's the most personal gear to own.
Are you going to Summer Nationals? Stop by the booth there and try on gear, so you can be sure it fits and feels good. -

Array Oh I wish...I couldn't make it to summer nationals if I wanted to. But anyways, I checked out the chest protectors and the cheapest one is exactly $35. Should I just get that and nothing else? -

Array There are a few things you can do:
Apply the credit to the Leon Paul gear that we stock. You know that's good.
Apply the credit to point parts - we carry Leon Paul and FWF. No HPC or other questionable stuff there.
Apply the credit to the LP shoes
Wait for summer nationals and come by our booth.
FDN is our in house sourced products. The end manufacturer varies depending on the product. For any product you get that you don't like, you can return for a full refund.
Some people at the GA Games and other events have seen what I stock first hand and could provide you some guidance.
Cheers,

Array A glove or a chest protector is probably the best you can get for 35 bucks exactly. Anything good equipment other than that is gonna cost a good deal more.
As a side note:: I bought a new weapon at the GA Games and as far as I"m concerned it's the greatest thing ever. I am sad that I love BF White now, they are expensive. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Array Oh, also, you could a LP body cord, which I'm sure will make things more smooth at practice for everyone without equipment. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

Array Craig - I was eyeing the Leon Paul gear, but just the plastron alone would use up all my credit and I'm trying to get as much as I can for my money since I rarely ever have it (and this was a gift from a friend, which just goes to show how cheap I am. I can't get my own equipment!)
*see RW's knickers in photo gallery for reference*
"Apply the credit to point parts..." What does that mean? Well, I've got adequate fencing shoes for the moment so I don't need that. I'd really like to get some knickers and a jacket that fit, but you can't get good ones for $35.
Rebel - That is true. I should probably get the glove first. (seeing as how our club needs to get a chest protector anyways. The only one we have is cracked and a size...well, too big for me!) -

Array Get the chest protector...
Breasts must be protected at ALL costs... even the tiny ones.
KD's advice is spot on. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Array RW... go with Mr. E's advice. Get a proper fitting breast protector. This is the most personal piece of gear and it protects an area you don't want to get hit in.
If you have any money left over, get yourself a glove or body cord. Then as funds permit (in the future) your own mask. Beer, it's whats for dinner! ~ a young snowboarding Canadian The meek don't want it! ~ sticker on a rock band's guitar -

Array Ah DFP, nice to see your smart ass again.
So far I'm going for the glove and the chest protector. Though I'm holding off for a little bit because one of the guys in my fencing club said they were going to be getting another chest protector.
So if not the chest guard, then what? -

So if not the chest guard, then what? really depends on you what you want the most(or hate the most); if you hate the disgusting club gloved go ahead and get a glove from AF, the standard one is pretty good for the price(the advance one just has extra padding on the back of your hand); if you hate waiting on people for a bodycord in practice, bodycord is also a good buy (the LP is in really good quality and reliable, though I am cheap I just have a AF and a BG bodycord.) well, if you dont want a bruise on some area, which I think it would be bad for modeling, get a chest protector. I dont think you need to buy points or tips for weapon yet, anyway. But there is nothing really you need to buy (or you can buy) besides gloves and chest protector as far as i can think of. -

Array Based on the advice given, I'd say you would want to get either:
Econoguard chest protector: http://shop.fencing.net/Econo_Guard_p/bk-eco.htm
Leon Paul Epee Body Cord:
Epee body cords are here: http://shop.fencing.net/category_s/28.htm
or wait a couple of weeks for the Armor One glove to come in stock as it will be $25.

Array and for glove? http://shop.fencing.net/category_s/22.htm
my sister said she never had a blister or bruise on her hand again after she uses the LP glove, but it's $40. I myself is cheap, i use AF advance. -

Array I like that glove, but RW said she wanted to stay in her $35 limit, so I didn't suggest that one as it's closer to $40. -

Lucky!
Well, you could buy me something.
But really, it is always nice to have your own glove. Plus, if you have your own, you can take it home to smack (or gross out) whoever you live with. "I don't get mad... I get stabby." -Fat Tony -
