| New England Division - Summer Tournament Schedule Just wanted to throw a heads up to everyone...
I just posted the Summer Schedule for the New England Division onto the division's website: http://www.neusfa.org/schedule/05-06/SummerSched06.htm
All of the tournaments scheduled for this summer are going to be held at PdF ... mainly because we're crazy, and also because we have air conditioning...
Everything through July 31st is up on askFRED, the rest of it should be up sometime this week. (Link to tournaments on FRED:
EDIT: Everything is now up (6/15 - noonish) http://askfred.net/Events/upcoming.p...ers%5Bname%5D= )
Some highlights:
7/29 & 7/30 - Canadian Elite Style Mixed Opens
We will be using the old Canadian Elite format... (One round of pools to DEs to the round of 16... round of 16 fenced as two double-stripped pools of 8, top four in each pool make up a DE table of 8, DE from 8 fenced as normal)
The sabre event should be particularly strong, as it is happening at the end of our elite sabre camp which we have some pretty good strength signed up for .
Labor Day Weekend: Team Competitions in all three weapons
Saturday - Team Sabre
Sunday - Team Epee
Monday - Team Foil
All places fenced off from the 16... lots of fencing, and nobody doesn't like team events (apologies to Sara Lee).
A PDF of the schedule is attached.
Hope to see you this summer!

| Wayne, you didn't mention this year's Bay State Games - July 13-16th - also at PdF. Not a USFA tournament, and only open to Mass. residents, but still... it's fencing.
See www.baystategames.org for more info and final schedule.

| I may come up for the July 29 one, and if you think there's going to be good competition at the 8/19 one, I'll do that too. It's hard to find good competition in the summer, and I have to sharpen up for Labor Day.

| Peach, the July 29th one should be pretty good... the august one, who knows... we'll see who shows up. Traditionally, there aren't ANY tounaments up in this area between Bay State Games (the week after nationals) and late september... None of the clubs in the area were air conditioned in the past... now that we've got the air conditioning problem resolved, we decided to host tournaments... we'll see what the interest is.
Keep an eye towards FRED, and that should give you an indication of who plans on fencing.

There's nothing as annoying as traveling for an event with four people in it. So far, there's only two registered for the sabre--even IF one of them is Laura Johnson, who is worth traveling to fence.

| I'm not worth travelling to fence ....
Md division is very new to the askfred thing, and cap div pretty much uses it only for Cherry Blossom (at the insistance of the poor bc), so I would not read to much into the numbers signed up, as being indicative of final numbers...then again it is MD division sabre. I am trying to get more CP fencers to show up |

It would be nice to do it, though--I'm trying to get in as much fencing as I can this summer. I would be happy with a pool of 6 if you think that's possible, assuming I can get away this weekend--MD is very driveable for me, especially since I'm off for the summer.

| I'm the only one who has registered for any of the Prise tourneys so far...*cough*desperate*cough* heh.
Should be good, though -- anyone who knows me knows I am in dire need of practice.

The sabre part is still coming along
I think it is distinctly possible we will get 6. WAFATH will probably fence as well and a couple others |

| Obviously you are not familiar with the regional sport of "Maryland Foil", played with conductive masks and y-shaped unwired foil blades. |

there is bascially one of each type of tournament... one Y-10, one Y-12, one Unclassified, one E & Under, one D & Under, one C & Under, one regular open, one funky format open, and one team tournament...
This does not include Bay State games which are basically an Open, a slightly over limited Junior, and a Veteran event...
So assuming you just want to fence epee, you can fence 7 events at prise de fer this summer... compare that to past summers...

-w | This is pretty cool. From everything I hear you guys are starting to crank out some pretty solid events, but in most other areas of the country it can be pretty difficult to hold off-season events. It seems that there are too many competing interests to keep people practicing and involved with fencing during the summer.
Do you think there will be enough demand to keep these events sufficiently large enough to justify holding them?
Are you specifically targeting fencers who may not be active during the traditional season? (for a variety of reasons)

| Is it really necessary to have the july 29th sabre event close registration at 9am? It's the only event that day, and it's sabre so it won't take too long. For those of us with longer commutes, it would certainly be kickass if I didn't have to get up at 5am. |

| Normally it's epee and foil who have that problem. It was going to be sabre's turn eventually. |
