A's fence free? I just saw this for the first time, but I have only been to two tournaments, only one of which was USFA. Is this common practice? As a U I am looking forward to getting stomped by the best, but it's only $20 anyway. The pen may be mightier than the sword, but why pick just one?

It's not really common, but not rare either. It happens from time to time depending on the tournament.

I think this way they can pump up the rating so more people would be interested. 2 As can make a difference between a B event and A event.
or you can say this is for appreciation of their efforts paid to get the As.
dont worry about getting stomped too much btw, everybody gets stomped when they started, that's how they learn

Thanks for the link, a little after I posted this I realized I should have just searched. The pen may be mightier than the sword, but why pick just one?
