New British Fencing Website

It's finally here! The new British Fencing website at:

http://www.britishfencing.com

It currently contains the same information as the old site but has had a facelift and restructuring that hopefully will allow people to find informaiton easier.

Now that's certainly an improvement. Nice!

It actually has more information. It now has the latest English Translation of the FIE rule book. I mentioned this new web site over in Armory yesterday. This is a very well thought out website.

It's always been there just that no one could find it.

It's a comment that seems prevailing. "oh, it's now got lots more on it".

Not true, all we did was rearrrange the existing content. The only new section is the "People" section.

I have always been able to find the rule book. The only problem was the latest rulebook had not been translated, so there was only the 2004 version and the updates from the last congress. They had a note stating it would be put out as soon as it was available. It just so happened that the new rulebook came out at the same time as the new web site.

I know that if the new web site did not appear that the rulebook would have been on the old web site, but the new site did come before they put the new rulebook on the old site.

The new rules were on the old site from about 2-3 weeks before the new site went live. Trust me, I know. I built the new site!

Then something is wrong. I was on the web site last week. I am constantly on the web site, since my French is not excellent, I double-check my reading of the French rulebook. I am reading parts of the rulebook every week.

Last week, when I looked, not only did I not see the new rulebook, the old rule book was no longer there. There was only the updates on the page where I normally go to.

Either the rulebook was not where it normally could be or the code was not applied correctly.

Whether it was there are not, does not matter. I still think the new website is great. It is not only easier to navigate, it appears brighter. The pictures and their placement seems to make it cheerier.

They moved it to a new page, where I can't remember.

Thanks, let's hope they keep it that way. We were only contracted to build the site not to maintain/update it.

Now you're scaring me! Didn't the person who built the USFA web site say the same thing and look how wonderful that turned out.

oh, we will give them support - just that we won't be typing the stuff in. It runs on one of our servers so we can keep an eye on it.
