Array Photos description of your club I thought it would be nice and perhaps useful for fencers to post pictures of their club layouts and features. I am currently working on a business plan for a club. I think the facility is one major selling point and I would like to see photos and hear descriptions about what people like and dislike about the physical layout of their fencing clubs. I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. -

The major disadvantage of our club is that we timeshare. IOW, we rent space between the hours of X and Y from a facility. We do have a tiny space in which to store club equipment but otherwise we are somewhat restricted by the location. -

The picture is of the Meyerland location, which is dedicated, the rest are rented I believe. I'm not it Houston, but it is a very nice place to hold a tournament. The picture shows the smaller of the two rooms, the other one has a light colored wood floor.
Also, I need to hassle them about fixing the rest of their site. -

I love the open look of this facility. What other description can you provide of the features? I'm a foil fencer, and I can change, if I have to, I guess. -

Array There is actually another entirely different room as well, even larger, plus a good sized foyer and a proshop.
The room pictured there is used mainly for tournaments, and also is rented out to other groups as a ballroom/partyroom/etc. The main fencing room is behind the viewpoint of that picture, through the foyer. I don't know how they normally operate for regular practice (although, I'll find out soon, as I'm participating as an instructor in a camp down there in a couple of weeks), but for tournaments, its a wonderful location.
The BC and registration are set up in the foyer, with full still plenty of room. Fencing goes on in the two rooms on either side of the foyer, with capabilities for quite a few strips. At Sectionals last year, we ran something like 14 strips (I think 10 grounded and four used only for sabre), with plenty of room for referees, bags, armory, etc. Its a great location for a tournament. The floor is very very nice for fencing on and well maintained. Plenty of parking too. The only things it lacks are a locker room with showers (although the existing restrooms are sufficent), and a weight training area. No perminantly mounted strips either, but that does give abit of flexibility to set things up in different configurations. That's it, I'm done with the discussion forums on F.net. It's had its uses, but the ideologues, ranters, and "experts" have drowned too many of the conversations. I'm changing my password to something random and never logging in again. -

Array There are a couple of pics of AFC (www.atlantafencersclub.com) and some pretty good pics of Fortune Fencing (www.fortunefencing.com). Both clubs I've been apart of in the past. AFC's site is new and I have not been in it as of yet. Fortune also recently moved to a new location. -

Array Richmond Fencing Club We just got our fulltime space about 8 months ago. The dimensions were not ideal (35X150) , but the price and location were good. The link below includes photos of our floating floor construction, space layout, and pictures at various stages of completion/move-in. http://richmondfencing.blogspot.com/...g_archive.html http://www.richmondfencing.com
We were able to fit front and rear seating areas, 2 restrooms, an office, 6 regulation size strips, 2 practice (3' wide, normal length) strips, an armoring bench, fencing bag rack, and small concession area with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and supplies. Since the photos shown were taken, 4 of the 6 competition strips we fitted with overhead reels and scoring boxes, lots of posters have been hung, a fencing dummy (Aldo) has taken up residence, and targets have been hung all around.
The Nellya and Atlanta Clubs look beautiful. Someday we'd like to have a great space like that, but this space gives us the flexibility we need to run more classes, teach lessons, host events, and run camps...everything that puts money in the bank. If everything goes well, maybe we'll outgrow the space and be "forced" to move in a few years.

You can see pictures of LAIFC's set up on the banner at the top of each page. Each is a different picture of their center. http://www.bhfencers.org/clinics.html
Another site with no pictures of the just facility, but there are plenty with people posing in them. It also has those pesky suspended reels that you accidentaly knock out any spectators with.
SCFC's balcony on the second floor is great. -

Array This is copied from my club's website about the facilities:
FAP's facility features almost 6,000 square feet of strength, cardiovascular, and human performance training equipment. FAP is the largest facility in region, and one of the top 4 fencing facilities in the US. There are eight regulation fencing strips, six with overhead reels and repeater scoring lights. Our specially cushioned training floor is designed to to minimize leg stress and maximize energy. The Academy is fully air conditioned, with changing rooms, showers, nursery area for small children, pro-shop, and member lounge. Armory for equipment service and repairs. Pro-shop, providing equipment, spare parts, uniforms and apparel.
When I can figure out how, I have pictures of every last detail of the club that I had to do for an etnography last year, I just have to transfer them, as they are on a different computer. -

and is a little arogant, even if she has some right to be...........
Besides, I think there need to be pictures of the space now that it's lived in...............
{edit: what can i say, there were a lot of pretty girls in high school i really didn't like........}
