| First Time Wiring Hello, I'd like to apologize ahead of time for the dumb question I am about to ask. Here it goes. I have been fencing with a practice foil for almost six months now, and I am ready to actually bout with an electric blade. I just joined a club, and although I am taking some lessons, I have never bothered to ask what the best way to wire would be (for fear of looking dumb). I have seen people with holes in their gloves, and others with a hole on the sleeve of their jacket. What is the most reccomended way of wiring in? I don't want to make holes on my gear unless it will be effective, legal in competitions, etc... Just so you know, I have an LP electric foil with a bayonet socket and wire and an LP front zip jacket. the club provides the lames, and they are front zip also. Thanks in advance and sorry for the inconvenience. |

| I'm a newbie too. When I wire in I just velcro my glove around the cord. That seems to work pretty well.

| do you run the cord under your jacket sleeve, or over it? |

| I'm assuming here that you are refering to how to wear a body cord and not wiring a blade. My method is that once I have my plastron on I stick the reel end into my hip pocket and hold the weapon end in my hand. I then put on my jacket. I just velcro my glove around the wire at the point closest to the wrist. Any hole in your glove or jacket that might catch a point will be considered illegal.

| Since this is Foil, the bodycord wire should go down your sleeve. There should be no holes in your jacket. You want the whole on the palm side of your glove on the arm side of your wrist.
The glove should go over the sleeve of your jacket.
Since you ask about where to put a hole, I am assuming you have a leather glove without velcro. Cut an slit that is going down the arm just below the wrist on the underside (palm side) of the glove that is just big enough to push the connector through. Then do some sewing at each end of the slit to stop it from getting any bigger.

| Yes, I meant how to wear it, sorry. I know that if a point catches a hole it's illegal, hence my unwillingness to make holes on my equipment. Thanks for the advice. |

The one Morion has was designed for Electric Fencing and has velcro to close up the hole. A hole in the jacket is another matter and there should not be one. Keep the hole as small as possible to allow the exit of the cord on the bottom side and you will be fine.

| I'd like to thank those who provided prompt advice to my question earlier today. I bouted today, and all your advice was helpful. DH, thanks to you and Morion I found the small hole in my glove and was able to wire without looking like a newb (even though I am). Once again, thanks! |
