Update on this- I recently acquired a Santelli from Epee Scherma that has a bit of smooth lining sewn over the top of the collar. This makes it a whole lot more comfortable, and takes care of the velcro problem on my lame. Doesn't do anything for my jacket, but it's a step in the right direction!
