Maestro Giancarlo Toran, President of the Italian Association of Fencing Maestri (AIMS) and head coach of Pro patria Scherma in Busto Arsizio, Italy, will direct an advanced workshop for fencing instructors and coaches (maestri) specialized in epee.
This will be a hands on course where participants will be able to experiment with the suggested techniques, compare them, and analyze them with their own methods of teaching. Analyses, technical, and tactical discussions will follow the viewing of films and videotapes of the last senior World Championships in Leipzig.
The course will take place in
Canazei, Val di Fassa, in the Dolomites region of North east Italy.

Physical preparation
Games before fencing: footwork, games for tempo and measure
Basic and advanced techniques
Method and methodology of the fencing lesson
Strategy and tactics in the management of a bout
Mental preparation
Classroom work (films and videotapes) and work on the strip
This course is limited to the first 20 Italian or foreign participants submitting their application.

1. Even though the course will be in Italian, several of the expected participants are fluent in English and other languages.

3. In Italy, as in France, the profession of fencing monitor, fencing instructor, and fencing coach, is regulated. One must have attended courses and passed exams both in theory and practice of fencing, for each weapon. Calling yourself a coach because you saw others doing it or because you found parents entrusting their children to your care for "teaching" them how to fence, or even if you won one or more gold medals at the Olympics, doesn't make you one.
