Idiotic epee mistake - wrong distance inside tip

Hi!

-> Peter Gustafsson <-

OK, here is my mess-up: I forgot to retain the plastic distance ring which goes to the contact cup inside the epee tip barrel. I noticed this after the glue had dried in the wire groove. Duh.

So, with a normally set contact spring, it does not reach the bare ends of the wires inside the contact cup. No lights whatsoever.

The good way is the tear up the wiring and get it right the next time, but I am feeling lazy. Anyone have a good idea on how one can work around this without having to tear up a perfectly good glue job, and get something that is good enough for club training?

Aargh!

Try turning the contact spring to make it a little longer.

Sorry, no advice on your problem. I would personally rewire, but I'm sure someone will come up with a tip (haha) for you.

I don't know that it would be long enough....but he can try. If not...rewire time.

It happens...happened to me too, although the other way around (forgot to dig out the old ring or remove the oine from the new wire)

You may have another problem. I would have been much easier for the manufacturers to make the wire without the ring and make a shorter barrel, but the ring is there for a reason. It keeps the two contacts from touching the blade. If you get the spring long enough the preasure on the cup could push the contacts into the blade.

Your best best is to rewire and learn from your mistake.

I've always wondered about that seperate spacer ring....NOW I know why it's there. Thanks, Donald!

'Course, since I sell either Sport 7 or Uhlmann wires, they just made tghe block one piece and recessed the contacts for the same effect....I don't have the seperate ring to worry about.
