Oh, and I'd also submit for consideration The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight.

I can't really say Dr. Jekyll was a "villain" either. (Of course, I haven't read volume 2 all the way through). The Invisible Man was rather bad, though.

Hands of Blue from the Serenity comic?

Faye's neurosis or the coffeehouse customers from Questionable Content?

This is why I prefer Unicron, who was completely and totally undeniably evil, seeking the destruction of all life. He was a Transformer to boot.

I would have thought Steve's alcohol induced delusion of the Tequila monster would better fit the traditional role of a villain.

Ok I've been thinking and here pose a list for consideration (in addition to Dark Phoenix):

    Ultraman
    Owlman
    Power Ring
    Imperiex
Sinestro (after all he did kill Uncle Sam)
    Superboy Prime
I now dangle to the left....my tassle. Get your minds out of the gutter.

Slightly off-topic, I just read "Arkham Asylum." READ THIS ****ING COMIC NOW! Best I have ever read. Better than Watchmen, Sandman, V, Dark Knight Returns, the Invisibles... Simply amazing.
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but why pick just one?

    ok, ok

Arkham Asylum is truely amazing, and thats one of the only reasons why i think the joker is one of the most bad ass villains ever.

however, that being said, there is absolutely nothing that could ever top the watchmen.

Ozymandias would eat the joker for lunch, and lets not even get into what Dr. Manhattan could do to him.

you laugh, but i'm one of those customers...................

    {that coffeehouse and the attitude of both the staff and customers is kind of strongly based on an actual coffeeshop in northampton. everywhere else you see in the comic- siam square.... herrell's ice cream.... they're all in noho too. on top of that, there's a burrito place across the street from the coffeehouse.....}

Anyone want to debate whether V is a villian, hero, antihero, or something else entirely?

no one but me mentions Dr. doom, who stole beyonder's power. for Brains its either him of Ozymandias

doomsday was pretty nifty, for sheer violence. he killed superman after all.

the scariest villain was the joker, and that really comes out in arkham asylum. scariest picture ever was in that comic.

Bane wasnt really so great, though he deserves an honorable mention for being the only man to break both batmans spirit and batman in general.

someone mentioned Thanos in the beginning, quite right.

I'm assuming, of course, that coolest and 'most powerful' or 'most effective' are different things. I voted for coolest. 'Most powerful/effective' would be along the lines of the Beyonder, Dark Pheonix (who deserved to be in the coolest list, too), Mephisto, Michael Korvac, Thanos, Reed Richards kid's alter ego (the little froggy guy, but he was only in like one issue), the Gamemaster (or whatever it was his name was, there weren't many who conquered Death, after all), etc. The DC universe I'm no where near as familiar with, but Green Lantern when he went crazy, Sinestro (who presumably has roughly the same ability), Darkseid, and I'm sure many others.

Did anyone ever kill Mr. Plastic? He was admittedly more powerful than Superman and arguably any other super hero lacking the power cosmic...the villain what beats him definitely deserves a mention.

It sounds a lot like Mojo's Daily Grind in Austin before it closed, to me, though I knew the strip was set in Northhampton. On the off chance I ever visit there, what's the same?

The Haymarket Cafe, refered to by locals as just "Haymarket". it's the location where, occationally, Jacques will mention he's going to be there, and so people can show up and meet him.

    A fond Haymarket story:

Some newbies were looking up at the blackboard menu above the counter--- the guy behind the counter looked at them...

    "that menu's not right......

oh, and you order food downstairs, you only order drinks up here....

oh, and they closed a half hour ago.........."

and the tone was exactly questionable-content-esque.

My favorite comic villain is the Orange Bunny in the Bunny strip,

True, however if you read the second book ... well, it will become clear what I mean. Although 'heroic' I might still place him in the "Anti-Hero or just pretty bad, camp...

And yes The Invisible Man was indeed ... bad. Actually; he was just as bloody bad in HG Wells book.

In DC Comics I would have to say that the coolest villian is Darksied. He's a god, he can erase someone from existence with a blast from his eyes, and he's trying to find the anti-life equation to become even more powerfull.

I don't count Watchmen b/c I don't consider it to be in the same category as other comics. It's just too good.

In marvel, I'd probably say Dr. Doom he has the most epic schemes and his talents fall under several categories but at the core he still a mad genius.

BTW: DC recently released a trade paperback of some of Alan Moores best work for DC."For the man who has everything", "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow," and "The Killing Joke." I highly recommend it even if you aren't a DC fan. It includes
    Fleche!! Fleche for fantasy.

"Dude! Zombie Keith Moon would be an unstoppable force!!
