| Foil Fencer uses Lego Greetings all!
I'm new to this site. I have been reading this site for a little while, just getting the jest of things around here. Great place! I live outside of Raleigh, NC. I started fencing about six years ago, but life happened and I found my wife, got married, got a house, and now we've having a baby boy! So I really need to get back in shape, I want to keep up with him when he suits up and takes the Foil in his hand!
I still have all my equipment, and I just bought a new foil and glove. I work the grave yard shift so I'll have to pick my practices around that

| Well, howdy regardless... I think that Raleigh Fencers Club (surprisingly close by for you ) has weekend classes, so that might be possible. . .

| I gotta admit, I love lego too. It's awesome stuff. Kids who spend their days playing on their computers and consoles have NO clue what they're missing out on.
I actually built one of those Lego Imperial Star Destroyers about a month ago. It'd been sitting under my bed for almost a year, and it's ABSOLUTELY HUGE. No kdding , by the time I'd finished building it, filled the entire desk it was resting on. Now I have nowhere to put it... O.o
Hehe... if you have issues with getting to training, you could try building a robotic Lego drilling aid, using Technic and Mindstroms kits. |

| I once built an actual working Tank with my legos. It had treads, a cannon, and can fire 36 bottle rockets under a minute. Ah... Good times.
Welcome.

| I have somewhat derranged cousin who ended up with a lot of spare cash, and made an entire Lego city on a floor of his house. He doesn't have a dining room, or a kitchen, all he has is a bedroom, bathroom, and his palace made of Legos rooms and rooms wide, with working mass transportation for all the important yellow people with partially functional hands. |

| Hiya, LegoFencer, and welcome to the forum! You should certainly check out Raleigh Fencers -- no morning classes, but we've got a Sunday afternoon group that might just fit your schedule.

It's geared towards homeschooled kids and their parents so depending on exactly how much of a workout you're looking for, that might be an option. You should call them up and find out about that.
I know one of the head coaches, Wes, is usually around during the day if you wanted to take some lessons to get your form back in shape. They may start offering some more daytime options starting in Sept. or Oct.

| Thanks for the warm welcomes. I went to the NBS gym on Sunday. It was a blast. I remembered a lot from my first time, which was over 5 years ago. The place is huge and the wooden strips are great! |

| I just got hold of a couple of Exo Force Mecha! They are ace and I've caught by the Lego bug - so much that I've been hunting around looking for some decent mecha building instructions; especially Battletech (if anyone has any forward them on).
And welcome legofencer: I hope that inane grin isn't too irritating your opponents and that those 2 dimensional shoulder joints, and hips, don't limit your fencing too much! |

| Hey and welcome to the forums. I currentl have some lego robots from the mindstorms part in my house, one with a remote so it doesn't have to rely only on the programs I give it. I also have a Whole array of harry potter legos and various other lego sets on the windowsills in my room, covering just about every square inch. I know, pretty nerdy. |

I'm ready for the constructive criticism, but I didn't realize I was irritating anyone, very sorry, I'll work on it. |

I was also greatly impressed by this: http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=7784&cn=244&d=7&t=3
I know there are people who've built Battletech inspired mechs out there, I swear I've seen a Vulture, a Nova Cat, and a SuperNova. I'll see what I can dig up. |

| I was feeling nostalgic and looking for building instuctions for some of my old favourite battlemechs: The Marauder, Battlemaster, Warhammer and so on. Someone has emailed me a list of links - most of which I have looked through. I'm new to build mecha from Lego so I've been casting around for good advice columns.
It seems to be a nightmare finding what you want on Lugnet, there is just so much stuff - but then I've only been looking at the site for 24hrs. And, even then, I was having to put with a disapproving girlfriend tutting over my shoulder.
I've been playing with Ldraw and the Ldesigner to see what I can do. It's funny how you forget how to build with this stuff when you don't do it regularly. I suppose I should look out my old Lego box as well.
I should stop now before I lose any credibility I might have had. |

| I think you'll find more than a few models here: http://www.brickshelf.com/
There's also some pretty damn impressive models from other sci-fi worlds, such as Battlestar and Babylon 5 (like the Starfury or the Hyperion) and plenty of others as well.
I've also found this site, which is more Battletech oriented: http://www.brickcommander.com/
I believe there is also some computer models on the Lego site itself, using their Lego Factory Software, but I’m not as sure about this, as I've not signed up to their website.
Enjoy. |

| Ah! It was Lego factory I was meaning. You can now upload Ldraw files to Lfactory and order the "bespoke kit" from Lego - or so the documentation says. I can't currently get my head round Lego Cad, but I'm a very quick study with these sorts of things and expect a couple of days tinkering will give me a basic understanding.
And yes - Brickcommander. Seen that as as well as Brick shelf. Great for ideas. I've even (hangs head slightly) downloaded the Lego builder enthusiasts magazine. It's not quite as sad as I thought it was going to be: some of those models are just eye popping works of art, however the builders are invaribly side parted, live with mums... No, I don't want to be one of those.
Like the Bab 5 models - I might build myself a Starfury. |
