| Arcade Fencing Game The thread about Virtual Reality Fencing games jogged something in my memory. Does anyone remember an arcade game back in the 80's that had a fencing theme? I remember playing a game where you were a fencer and fought against another person or computer. You had like 3 buttons to use to defend/attack. I wish I could remember what it was called. I've asked others but no one else seems to remember this game. Does anyone here know about this game? |

| Are you talking about the game where you looked at a side view of 2 combatants in armor, and when you hit the armor enough times or with a good attack, it flew off? It wasn't 2 fencers as much as it was 2 armoured knights.
Does anyone remember the old Sega game from Microprose called Pirate's Gold? That had some nice fencing in it whenever 2 ships met at sea, you as the player fought the Captain of the other ship with rapier, longsword, or saber. Rapier was long and fast, but did little damage, sabre was short and slow, but did more damage, and longsword was in the middle. You had high, middle and low attacks and parries that corresponded with each attack, as well as advances and retreats. So far, that was the best and most enjoyable that I have seen, and have kept my old 16-bit Sega console just to be able to play that game. |

| No no! The best fencing game ever was Barbarian. I loved chopping that guy's head with the combo move, and then the gnome would come and pick up the corpse by the feet, drag it on the side, all the while kicking your opponent's head like a soccer ball.

| It was a side view yeah...hmmm, maybe that's the game. But for some reason I keep thinking it was two fencers. Do you remember what that game was called HilandDoug?
I think Pirates Gold is on the PC now. |

| there was an old arcade game called Great Swordsman. The game started you on epee. Once you beat a variety of opponents, you then went on to kendo. After that, you apparently go back in time to fight in the Roman Coliseum. Amusing game. If you have MAME (an arcade emulator) you can get a ROM of it. |

| I seem to remember the arcade game mentioned, where the knights whacked away at each other... I loved "Pirates!:Gold" from Microprose - I have a PC copy, but it won't run on the faster PC's we use now. It needs a 386/486 machine. Fun game, and you get to choose cutlass, rapier, or longsword for your fencing encounters!!!

| I remember "Barbarian"! That game was a gas! I forgot about the little gnome, though. He was funny! I don't remember the name of the game I was referring to, but the guy you played had blue armor. I want to say it was something like "Gladiator", but I can't be sure. We're talking 15 years ago! |

| Samurai Showdown, perhaps? It's my favorite fencing game. Distance control and timing in that game isn't too far off from fencing. |

| Yeah, I remember seeing that arcade game as a little kid. I'm not that old but old enough. Thanks for the info guys. Hmmm...I wonder now with the new game consoles out that someone hasn't thought of or tried to make a fencing game. The technology is good enough for it to be really good. One of my favorite "fencing" games is Bushido Blade 1&2. |
