Array I also offer an apology from KOS. I tend to believe folks when they tell me they signed up at another tournament or "it's in the mail". For the future, either they will show a card or receipt, fill out a USFA form with a payment or not fence... Your license to kill does not include your brothers!

I let a kid fence who I thought was a member and it turns out he was not I guess that is what I get for thinking the forms had been filled out and trusting what certain people had told me.
Not sure where this goes but I am not sure anyone in NC should bother trying to run a local event in NC next year and even more skeptical about anyone who many want to attend one. I have a bad feeling the way this is going having a USFA card will not be enough to fence in NC anymore.
Guess bottom line is if anyone wants to fence at a local event in NC next year they should be ready for a more and bothersome registration process. -
That Guy
Array The process need not be bothersome at all.
Process:
Show card.
No Card? Go to official print out received from the USFA of all current members.
Not on print out? Pay for membership.
Already paid? Show receipt.
No receipt? Pay for membership and go to the USFA to get a refund.

Array This could be even easier. Just imagine if the usfa membership roles were availalbe online. Secured, password protected. Have a division officer logon, sign in and presto, check to see if the person is a member. Or better yet, have the USFA licence askFred and add the functionality there. But alas, our national organization is still operating like it was the 1980's.....
Now where is my stick... I think I see a dead horse I can beat.... -
Talk to your Division and Section Secretaries. They can access the USFA membership list.
No receipt? Pay for membership and go to the USFA to get a refund.
Pay by credit card or separate check, and the USFA will not charge you twice. -
Agreed. While they may not always be the fastest at processing the payment if the date of registration is on the check or form, then you should be covered. Now I fence in SC and often go to NC for tournaments so I know most of the people up there. I'm sure pretty sure by now everyone has heard rumors and speculation of all sorts.
I would like some straight up, honest answers. This affects SC almost as much as it does NC because of the all the fencers that go between the states to tournaments. The ratings could be inaccurate for the entire region. As I have talked with the acting division chair, it seems that for the moment this matter will be left alone unless more information comes to light to show the need to desanction tournies here.
More to the point having looked at the email a while back and checking the list of tournies that have problems on askFred, you start to notice some odd things. Is this their error or is this what is true because some of them are more blatant than others. I have been following this issue for a while though I have never made an account on here until the other day have been reading the posts. I have found the discussion very interesting.
I don't think this is something that should be dealt with privately or swept under the rug. It's something that's out there and there are a lot of questions that have not been answered, and no one has asked directly. I don't know whether it's out of politeness or timidity. Frankly I don't care. I'd like to know exactly why all these inconsistancies have a few constants. I think that people deserve the answer to it. -

Array Yay necro-thread, but to answer your question:
The matter has been fowarded to the National Office. Any ratings changes occuring due to the events at the tournaments in question will be handled by the National Office, and certain restrictions will be made on the North Carolina division (and possibly member clubs thereof, also).
And that's the end of it. As I understand it, no one intends to make any public allegations and drag anyone's name through the mud.
The divisional meeting in NC for scheduling events is next weekend, and at that point we'll know what events are sanctioned or not, or how that will be handled. Once that's known, that should be sufficient for all fencers (NC, SC, VA, and where ever) to make informed choices on attending events in NC this upcoming year. -
I'd like you to feel that your doing well- Fezzik Similar Threads -
