| Bouncing in Epee I have noticed a lot of Epeeist bounce while fencing. Is this a requirement of the weapon, or a personal choice? |
| | | And now for this message... | |

| It's a requirement. I saw a guy refuse to bounce once, it was an ugly scene. First there was a yellow card, and then upon his insistance that bouncing was not necessary he was black carded. It was aamAAzing.

Many thanks |

| That was sarcasm, no it's not required, just a choice.
Edit:
Also to the people on the forum, go easier on someone who just joined. Not everyone can pick up on the 'mood' of a board immediatly.
Edit2:
BrisGirl, welcome to forum, it's good to have another épéeist!

But seriously welcome to the forum

| Is it me or does the name "BrisGirl" seem an odd coupling, given the usual target of a Bris?

If passivity is determined during the first two minutes of a pool
bout, or during the first two minutes of the third period of the
direct elimination bout, the referee will call halt, and determine
priority. The fencers will then fence a one minute period, without
sudden death. The bout will end when one fencer reaches the
maximum score (5 or 15 points) or time expires.
Should there be manifest passivity or unwillingness to fence during
the third minute, the referee will neither give a warning nor stop the

Both bouncing and not bouncing present varying strategies to timing, tempo and distance. Arbitrarily "requiring" bouncing seems foolish and invites a lack of control over your footwork. |

Just to be clear, bouncing is not actually a requirment and many epeeists don't bounce.

| So if your opponent stops bouncing, at what point do you check if they're still awake? Quote: |

| You don't... you just poke them with your epee.
BTW... CrazyLittle be careful what you say about epeeists around here. ALL the fencers (especially Inq) consider us gods.... I know, I know it's a little embarrassing at times, but what can you do???
