Smelly Grips...

I just got my first practice foil that I ordered from the fencing.net store. THis one http://shop.fencing.net/product_p/afg-81004.htm and I have a question. Are all grips this smelly..after I hold it my hand they smell like I have been holding filthy change all day. A real bad metallic smell. I smelled it as soon as I got it out of the box. And it bugs me. Are all grips made of the same material as this one?

Grips are made out of several different materials, depending on the weapon. Foil grips are almost universally aluminum, except for french ones, which can be rubber or leather over aluminum, plastic or wood. Also, there might be some all plastic ones.

Once you keep fencing a little bit longer, your glove will smell so bad that you won't notice the grip smell anymore.

If it really bothers you, you could buy an insulated pistol grip.

It could be that the photo is not in color or it could be one of the new merdelite handles, which would explain the smell

Leon Paul sells plastic belgian grip.
besides, it wont bother you for long, it's like the whole "you cant smell yourself" thing, it will fade away as you move on
but I have to admit, my Uhlmann grip (uninsulated) smells less (smoother finish too) than my AF or BG ones.
