| All the hotels are quite a long way from UBC. Your best bet is to contact the organizers and see if you're able to get onsite accommodations... yes I know you missed the deadline, but it's worth it. Last year, I think they allowed people rooms even though they missed the deadline.
Failing that… see if you can get either a bed and breakfast place in the area or a hotel on Broadway (the Broadway bus goes straight to UBC).
Car or taxi… hmmm I guess it depends on how much driving you want to do while visiting Vancouver. If you have time to sightsee or you want to party/ go out for dinner. It might be worth getting a car.
Vancouver is a very beautiful city and worth exploring.
If you're just there to fence take a taxi. It’s about a 20-30 minute taxi ride from the airport to UBC. If you stay at a hotel, most of them have shuttles.
