Actually from my D&D experience you can have golem's made from more than just clay. |

| The folk history of the Golem is an interesting one.
Dating from the Middle Ages there are several versions, but they pretty much agree on the broad outlines:
A. The Golem is a manlike creature made of clay.
B. The Golem is created by a rabbi to protect the Jews in the ghetto.
B. The Golem's life-force resides in a Hebrew word or letter on its forehead.
C. When the Golem turns on those it purports to protect, the rabbi is forced to destroy it by rubbing out the word or character, thus returning it to just a mound of clay. This is done either by reasoning with the creature or deceiving it.
The basis of the story are the moral implications: trying to create life when this is a power reserved to God, struggles with whether it is justified to break religious law for the perceived sake of the greater good, whether it is a sin to destroy the Golem once it has life, etc.
It provides a fascinating look at the Talmudic tradition and thought of Eastern Europe.
What permutations (abberations?) of the creature might have been developed/created for modern D&D, I can't say.

| Well, that was an interesting topic to look up. Sadly, a fair number of the links are now dead.
Yes, Zelda is an attractive girl, but I've only room in my heart for one girl.

| Craig: I scanned a pastel I did of someone who taught me fencing, it's probably totally unrecognizable, why not post it for me? [the guys will love it, please, it won't do anything to him, he has his own web page anyway] |

| the one i scanned was the second pastel, the first was less aggressive looking, more mild, i used a lighter palate, in the second drawing, it was more intensive, the forhead especially looks like him, why not?!
I entitled it "Freely Dispensing Advice" my first drawing is larger, and has no title. |
