Array Another kitty name question Here i go again
I've got a new kitten who's solid grey -- looks a lot like a Russian Blue. I've already had a foster kitten names Bleu and I don't like to repeat names. We're calling him Blue Boy just for an identifyer, but I'd like to nail down a permanent (while he's with us) name.
I know the painting "Little Boy Blue", but I don't kow the name of the artist.
Anyone? -
Do you mean "Blue Boy" by Thomas Gainsborough? -
BTW, "Little Boy Blue" is a poem. A touching, sad poem. -
I used to have a grey cat called Shovel.
That's about all the intelligent comment I have to offer. -

That might be it. The subject is standing in a model's pose and is all in a medium-light blue. I don;t know more than that. -

Array I like Inigo (which sounds like the purplish blue color indigo). But hey, I'm a big Princess Bride fan! "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

I like it, I say go with it.
Then again I'm a Princess Bride fan too.

Array Our first cat was Aldo, he's no longer with us, so the name is available. And considering his namesake's tomcatting around, seems appropriate for a "blue" cat. -

Array My new cat is solid grey, and my nieces who found him named him Max. Since he's mine now, I changed the spelling to Mac's. (Last name is McLaren, so it's in reference to that.) I got Max (still easier to spell) a pal and named him Rocky after my grandfather (a Rockefeller). But Rocky has become Max's shadow, so I'm thinking of changing his name to Shadow. But if I do, I think everyone will ask why didn't I name the grey cat Shadow? As it is, they're just Mac's and Rocky, my buddies the cats. -

We did that one about 2 years ago. I don't like to repeat names...I want 'em all to be unique.
If he was a female, I'd go with Bluebell. What I SHOULD call him right now is Hoover, because of how he vaccums food off the plate! It's really funny to see him walk away when he's done...looks like an ambulatory football! -

Array Or, maybe, "Kitty, Kitty, Bang, Bang"? Nothing is more frightening than ignorance in action. -

Nnnnooooo...that'd probably be a nickname for one of our fixed males who still responds to a female in heat
It's looking more and more like it's going to be Blue Boy. We've been calling his that purely as a temporary identifier (did we medicate Blue Boy this morning?), and when that happens, the name tends to stick even if it no longer applies. We have a momma with a kitten one time about two years ago. Mom had a slight cold and we called her Sneezer just to ID her...ended up being her name the entire time she was with us! -

Array Hi,
you could always call him Greymalkin (GREY-malkin, get it). What follows are a few of my favorite cat names:
Mehitabel (from an old cartoon Mehitabel and Archie about a cat and a cockroach apparently, it was quite a bit before my time, but sounds cool. I frequently call my cat Mehitabel the kitty belle, although it isn't her name)
Jenny-any-dots (Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats)
Tigger (oh, the wonderful thing about Tiggers. . .)
MacCavity (Old Possum's Practical cats again. FYI MacCavity is the master of feline depravity, oh just read the poem would you.)
Tybalt (obligatory bard reference, as is Greymalkin)
Picklepuss (another of my cat's nicknames)
Hecate (also mentioned in Shakespeare, but I believe she's a goddess of something or another)
Spooky (appropriate for black cats)
Jinx
Agate (it just sounds like a good cat name)
Bast (Speaking of goddesses)
Tinkerbell
Twinkie
Shellie (name of a tortoiseshell I found under the neighbors' porch, but couldn't keep)
Heinz/Ketchup Bottle Kitty (both referring to the ubiquitous Heinz 57 aka Moggie)
Then of course my cat is named L.C. which stands for little cat. Before I got her I looked down on people who named their cats Cat, or Kitty--and to be honest I still do. However, she was a stray who was hanging around the neighborhood, we were feeding her anyway, then we found out she'd had kittens, so we certainly couldn't let her go hungry, we waited until the kittens were old enough and decided to have her spayed, then we decided since we'd gone to all the expense and trouble we might as well adopt her completely. Over the time she was with us, I gave her several names, none of which stuck. At the time, she was just a scared little stray and didn't have too much of a personality, heaven knows now she has enough for several cats. One of our neighbors had a large, friendly, neutered male who frequently came to visit, and I always referred to him as the cat, when I talked about L.C. I called her the little cat to distinguish her from the other one. When we took her in to the vet, we had to put down some name for the records, so I decided since little cat was the only thing I called her consistently that would have to do, so I put down L.C. and it stuck. As I said, now she has enough personality for several cats, but I'm not sure what would be appropriate and everyone's used to her being called L.C., so although I think she must hate me for giving her such a dumb name, maybe that's why she bites every so often, while earnestly attempting to disembowel my arm, it's going to stay L.C.
I can relate to the feline vacuum thing, L.C.'s got it mastered. I was stunned at the volume of food she put away and the speed she put it away at when she had the kittens. Of course then she ate anything and everything, including left over pizza. Now she only eats fish flavored food, smooth not chunky, she licks the juice off the chunky and leaves the rest, but not the same brand for too long and the ocassional tortilla chip, or french fry.
Sorry that's long. Everyone I know dreads when I talk about my cat, but what can I say, she's my baby. One cat leads to another--Ernest Hemingway.

Array The Wonderful thing about tiggers is tiggers are wonderful things. Their tops are made out of rubber, their bottoms are made out of springs. They're bouncy, trouncy, flouncy, pouncy, fun, fun, fun, fun, fun...but the most wonderful thing about tiggers is I'm the only one.
I feel better for that.
As for cat names, I have little to offer. I know of a cat called Ian, one called Jeremy James (and no, elephants don't sit on cars). I also heard of one affectionately called "cookie". The cat's full name was Cooking Fat. Go think about it if you don't get it right away. I'm sure they loved him really. I wish I could think of something witty to write here. -
