After hubby and I finish our "paint the interior of the house project" (we started today and I don't think we're going to finish anytime soon) I wanna check out these flicks!

| I have heard that there is a new Musketeer movie coming out, but I also didn't know about the Count of Monte Cristo. I'm not so sure on either of them. I mean there already have been a lot of remakes. I like the one with Chris in it. (Musketeers that is.) Has anyone read the Dumas version of either one of them? Wonderful reading. If you like reading that kind of stuff.

| I'll definitely go and see Musketeer... Although again there seems to be a lot of swinging and jumping and not a lot of "accurate" fencing... But it still looks cool...
I'll download the trailer for Monte Cristo and check it out. I love the Dumas novels (and actually went to all the major places mentioned in them... including Monte Cristo...) I guess being German helps with that... two hours of driving and you are in France, 6 or so hours and you are in Italy...

| Some fencers from our division are planning to go to a theatre on opening night (this Friday) to give a fencing demonstration and then watch The Musketeer. However, at this point we don't know which theatre. Believe it or not as of yesterday, none of the theatres knew what movies they will be showing on Friday. I guess that info just comes from the corporate home office. In any event, three theatres said they're interested (provided they will actually have the movie). Whichever one gives us the thumbs-up first gets our business. |

| I just got back from the Musketeer.....I can't believe my eyes......this won't spoil the movie for you, but:
TIM ROTH KILLS D'ARTAGNAN'S DAD WITH A FLICK ATTACK USING A RAPIER!!!!!!!!! UUGGH! I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!
And Meena Suvari can't act.
Nice photography, but the rest of the movie stunk. Well, maybe that's a bit harsh, but suffice it to say I was disappointed. |

| Yeah, I just saw the Musketeer, and boy was it silly. But before everyone starts griping, I have to say that it was perfectly obvious from the ads that this movie probably wasn't going to contain any fencing whatsoever; it's all kung fu with rapiers in hand and floppy hats. And the script had nothing to do with the book besides the character's names and the general setting.
All that said, it was hilarious. I was thoroughly entertained by the bar brawl, the rope fight and the fight in the ladder factory. For the rest of my life I'll be looking for the chance to use the move Tim Roth does where he slides headfirst down a ladder in a sort of diving fleche.
Go see it if you really want to laugh at the goofy fighting, but you might want to do like I did and see it at the matinee rather than paying full price. |

| I saw the movie and thought it was very entertaining. I knew going in that it was going to be different and not true to Fencing (or the storyline) but it still was enjoyable. I'd have to agree the movie itself wasn't that great but did like the fight scenes...because I find them imaginative.
Yeah, as Slider said it is Kung-Fu with Rapiers but man was the blade work fast. Now most of you might not agree, but that to me is close to Fencing.
I have to admit Tim Roth's character is a real baddie. The guy's such a good actor. He did a great job in this movie. Did anyone see Rob Roy? The fight scene at the end was very good. In fact it's probably the best sword fight scene in any movie.
As a side note I wonder if Fencing enrollment will go up with the release of this movie? |

| Saw The Musketeer this Friday.
Bad acting (the horse was the best actor - GASP,GASP,GASP, - But master - we're ALMOST there, I can make it, I can, I (collapse) CAN'T - GASP, GASP
Silly dialog, but the asides were almost worth the price of admission. - re: alligators in the sewers.

| I just saw 'The Musketeer' yesterday, and besides the fact that the dialogs sound a little bit too much like Hong Kong action movies (e.g. "He was just trying to test you") or ("I have been practising"). But I really liked it. The fight scenes were really entertaining (my personal favorite is the stagecoach one). The horse stunts were pretty well made.
It's obvious that they took some liberty to adapt the script of the original book, but it's not that bad, there's been so many musketeer movies made anyway, it was good to see a new story.
I would recommend to see it, just for the scene where all the musketeers are charging on their horses towards the castle. In this kind of scene it is usually very hard to render the right emotions on screen, and this one was very well made.

| I saw the Musketeer this weekend.. I thought it was entertaining.. cant help it I like martial arts films and it did remind me of CTHD.. but I have to agree that even to my limited fencing knowledge.. it didnt have much in common with actual fencing... oh the action was furious and quick... but it was more chinese martial arts-like than Three Musketeer-ish. The story did have very little to do with Dumas's story .. though it was funny at times ..... personally I liked the old 50s version with Gene Kelly .. the fight scenes in it were quite good.... but I dont think we will see much actually realistic fencing in many hollywood movies these days.
"The Musketeer"
Rating: 3 stars (possible 5)
Just my 2 cents.....

| The Musketeer scored a whopping 9 1/2 on the LAME-o-meter!
Saw it tonight (Thursday). Some of it was cute, some cheesy. Yes, the horse was a better actor than most of the people on screen. Although, I kinda liked the Queen. Tim Curry played a MUCH better Cardinal, I thought.
It did sort of remind me of the version of 3 Musketeers that I saw onstage at Stratford.

| Ok I don't want to make any enimies here but hey, I just have to, or else it will be an injustice to all humanity....The Musketeer was the worst movie I have ever seen in my entire life, I'm saying that Georege Lucas is laughing his rear off because someone beat him to that title now. Here are my reasons:
1. Kung Fu in the 1600's? C'mon
2. Was there ANY sword play in it? Most of the time it was close up shots of the faces and not the action with the swords.
3. Continuity people! D'Artagnan changed cloths faster than anyone I know (watch teh scene where they give him the uniform to wear at the end) Also, what about that rain? Was it raining or not?
4. The guy got shot in the arm, and weilds a tree......yeah. AND NO MEDICAL ATTENTION????!?!?!?!?!?!?
5. The opening credits.....(caugh)
6. No Nudity! For the love that is good and holy!
7. I had no idea that one shot from a musket could take out three men riding on horses...
8. It was awfully nice of the bad guys to wait for D'Artagnan to get to the top of the coach before they let him throw them off.
Anyways, you get my point. Put it to you this way, it was so bad, that my Film Proffessor (my major by the way) got ahold of clips to use as examples of what NOT to do. But hey, if you want something to laugh at, go see it, but I did warn you.
