Haven't seen the tape yet but the news/spin is pretty predictable. Looks like he's just setting himself up to be a martyr. Hope we don't kill him or he just gets his way. If we do accidently or intentionally kill him, I hope nobody finds out about it. It will only bring more attention to their cause.

Talk about a smoking gun. Yeah, I know the media is using this term already but it's true. I don't think it's fabricated or the translation was made up. There's too much at stake for the Bush administration to do that. And you know it's so hard to keep a secret in Washington. Knowledge about the Bin Laden tape was gained through a leak. So if tbey fabricated this tape then it would destroy everything they (the administration) has worked hard for in the war against terrorism. I'm glad that this tape is out. Now the world can know his true face.

America has Hollywood... That person has probably watched "Wag the Dog" a few too many times.

If you haven't seen it, it's kinda interesting. Basically the government enlisting certain hollywood people to fabricate and document a conflict that never happened. But since the American Public trusts its media, nobody questions the validity of troups actually fighting in some remote corner of the world (I believe it was somewhere in Yugoslavia or one of the russian provinces).

"Wag the Dog" was an interesting spin on how we (read American Public) got involved in the conflict in Bosnia/Yugoslavia, Somalia, Ethiopia, etc. But primarily Bosnia. Although Bosnia wasn't a fabricated war, the way and emphasis placed on it at a crucial political time was very similar. This tape, however, I believe is genuine. And is an adjunct to the case against Bin Laden, et al, not the indictment and/or conclusive evidence. Quiet, anomynous death is what is needed here. That way martyrdom is suspect. A pork dipped bullet or knife would be most appropriate.

I must say it is really difficult to use this tape as any real evidence. The voices are horribly low, and there seems to be an echo in the room that makes listening even worse. Translating it perfectly is obviously impossible since at times NOTHING is audible even though mouths are moving. Fabricated? i doubt it...too much trouble since they already have the entire US behind them. Yes, the US has lost much of its support abroad, but not really on the Bin Laden issue...more on the issue of continuing this war into every country suspect of harboring terrorists. I even saw a list on CNN that included Libya/Tunisia...talk about an OLD grudge

Beyond the problems with translating it...supposing it is PERFECTLY translated i didnt see much on there that was overly damning other than that he knew about it before it happened. Well...so did alot of people including our government...they just didnt believe it would happen. As one person said on CNN "There is no point since the US has already passed judgement on him and they've already covered the land in bombs"

While I think its pretty safe to conclude Osama was behind the bombings, and I do support our going after him wether the tape is real or not, I don't trust translations in languages I don't speak particularly in times of war. There was a lot of funny business with that sort of thing during the gulf war as I recall in people being interviewed and what they said being translated in particularly creative ways.
