| The Fencers Diet Is there even such a thing? If there is, could anyone be kind enough to provide information about it? What should we avoid? What should we eat? |

| Chicken and steamed broc.
Pre game, a couple of cups of coffee. 2 power bars before, and a gatorade. 2 during and a few gatordades. 2 right before the final.
Food wise I eat alot of carbs, bread, pasta. Chicken in any form is pretty good.

| Most fencers I know seem to think beer is essential.

I believe fencers have proven that beer is essential... we're still working on what it is essential TO... but it is definitely essential

| Before for me... whatever I can get, nothing too big, it just has to have carbs and protein.
During the comp, cheesesticks and chocolate milk(one and a bit of milk *HAS TO BE CHOCOLATE* after pools and after a couple of DEs).
After, a buffet with your buddies. |

| I try to eat healthy for the most part. At tournaments I stick with mostly dried fruit and the occasional energy bar. Dried cranberries are very good to eat in between pools and DEs. Lately, I have really gotten into eating figs at tournaments. They give me lots of energy and are kind of the equivalent of an energy bar except they are much healthier for you.

| I've seen a number of fencers who include cigarettes in their diet.

| At tournaments, water. I don't eat during tournaments. Bad habit, I know, but I just don't feel like eating when I'm fencing all day. |

| Fruit, meat, and gatorade. Although I always like to be a little hungry during tournaments, I feel like it keeps me sharper.

| I'm about three weeks away from getting a degree in nutrition, so don't tell anyone I said this....for tournaments: 2 Whoop Ass energy drinks (so that one way or another I know I'll get to open a can of whoop ass) and 6-12 donuts on the drive there. Then a ton of water. I don't like to eat during tournaments either.
Seriously though. Just eat a balanced diet and make sure you get enough protein to allow your body to recover. The rule of thumb, unless you fence all day long everyday, is 1 gram of protein per kg of bodyweight a day. Chicken breast is a great place to get it.
