Array Try some blades at your club. The only thing you have to worry about is the size of the grip which depends on the size of your hands. You should be able to hold the weapon without having your thumb and forefinger pushed into the guard. Fail until you succeed!

Array And if you meant blade size, get size 2 only if you are less than 10 years old, size 5 otherwise. -

By the way, they dropped the rule for 10 and under for 0 or 2 blades, since it was unenforceble. The new rule is a blade 32.5" or shorter. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

But I recall finding only one vendor who actually had length of the blade listed for different sizes, the rest just offer 0, 2 or 5 (some also have 3 and 4). So, when buying a blade on-line, one still has to go by numeric size rather than length. -

There were a lot of failures at 32.5, not so much at 33. Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Definitely something to watch for then. Not a problem with her current ones, though - I measured all of them and they fit 32.5. -

Array Honestly, its a stupid rule. It makes the parents spend more to get their kid a set of blades for y-10, and then another set for y-12. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

Array If you've ever seen an 8-9 year old fencer trying to manipulate a full size weapon, then you would understand.
And to answer the original question.

Array A lot of replies about blade length, but I suspect the grip was the main concern. I was lucky enough to have a box full of grips of varying sizes and styles from the club armourer to choose from. If you can get your hands on a few different grips and try them out, you will likely discover one that suits you. assuming it's a pistol grip, be sure the thumb and forefinger don't hit the guard, and the "pommel" or the extension that goes back to the wrist doesn't reach past the bending point of your wrist so you can move your wrist in every direction you can when not holding the weapon.
