Array What happened to Cliff Bayer? Arguably the best men's foil fencer the US has produced (it's hard to say who is a greater fencer between Kellner and Bayer) and he just disappears off the face of the earth after the 2000 Olympics.
Why the sudden disappearence? Is it a conspiracy? -

Array the sheer number of women ATTACKING HIM for his sexy sexy sexy back/arms interfered with his fencing career. -

Why the sudden disappearence? Is it a conspiracy? He got abducted by aliens in suits. A friend of a friend works in the same firm as his. If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Intel? I always thought those were men in suits.
The only other firms I can think of that employ aliens are the St Louis Rams (circa 1999-2001) and the US Government.
Unless you're talking about the other kind of aliens, in which case: Cliff Bayer quit fencing to work in the fast food industry?

I was wondering about him too just recently. Also... Rashan Greenhouse, I think was his name. I remember seeing him win the JO's or something like that a few years ago, and just never hearing much more out of him ever after that. What gives? -

Array Folks burn out. Its tough to give it your all every time. "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. And from this side only! The flight of a half-man, half-bird. Dinosaurs nuzzling their young in pastures where strip malls should be. Cookies on dowels. All those moment, lost in time. Gone, like eggs off a hooker's stomach. Time to die" -Phil Ken Sebben -

He was really good. Can anyone confirm? -

Rashaan joined the REAL military, not the WCAP thingy, and as a result he has duties and commitments.
Good fencer. Take your time. Read carefully. -

Even though he hasn't been fencing at all while rotating between Iraq and (ironically) Italy, he stopped by the club one night to fence and it was pretty clear that he hasn't lost much of his ability at all! -
You know, there was/is a sabre fencing club in Baghdad... -

Why the sudden disappearence? Is it a conspiracy? Cliff stopped fencing immediately after the Sydney Olympics; it was common knowledge that Cliff Bayer had no intentions to fence beyond Sydney. That is why his loss in the round of 16, (15-14) to the eventual gold medalist was one of the most amazing bouts in US Olympic fencing history.
I think it is safe to say that Cliff will definitely go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest male fencer in US History.
I have also heard Rashaan Greenhouse is in the US Air Force, but he still has not lost his touch. Even without training for two - three years. Simply Amazing... -

Huum, Peter Westbrook anyone? Hard to top him. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Why the sudden disappearence? Is it a conspiracy? I think you have to consider duration of excellence as well as peak of performance. In my opinion Bayer, Kellner and others would have to exceed Michael Marx's years of excellence, as well as number of national championships, to be considered better. Michael was national champion in 1977, 1979, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1990. Whoopee! My avatar is back. -

Simply Amazing... Well...he has been training...just not for fencing. He told me he's been working out with his Base's football team as a Wide Receiver. If anything, he's bigger and a faster then when he left. Similar Threads -
