| Colorado fencing Im looking at starting fencing. The clubs im looking at are the Denver Fencing Center & Cheyenne Fencing Society. I was just wondering if any one knows any thing about these places. There the only two with in my area (Aurora).
Also not that Im looking at buying any thing now but was wondering if http://www.absolutefencinggear.com is a good place to shop. What are some other sites that I should look at. I also know about this places store.
Thanks |

| Thefencingpost.com has the second best cheap gear around.
Blue-Gauntlet.com is probably third.
Each is best in individual products, but I agree that absolute is #1 all around.
Leon Paul and Uhlmann or Allstar would be good ideas if you're willing to spend a bit more. |

| ask fencers in the area I did some Inernet research.
The Colorado Division is at http://www.explore-systems.com/colodiv/schedule.do
On May 7 is a tourni, which almost certainly is free to
observers. Walk in and watch. Get the lay of the land.
When a fencer is not busy, ask about his club and his
opinion. Use good judgement here, because some
fencers get in a zone and do not want to be bothered.
Or, ask other observers.
Directions to the club can be found at
SouthDenverFencing.com
main page at the bottom (Mapquest).
From askfred.net, I found this detail on the approximate
times.
Colorado Div C & Under May 7, 2006
Div2 Mixed Epee 12:30 PM E1 ?
Div2 Mixed Foil 10:00 AM D1 ?
Div2 Mixed Saber 9:00 AM NR ?

| If you're within a reasonable distance from Colorado Springs, there is some good fencing there in the form of the air force academy, which holds some strong competitions, and the olympic training center, which I believe lets people from the local area come in and fence a few times a week. If you're interested, PM me with your email and I will send it to a friend of mine who fences out of C Springs.

| Between the division listing and the University of Colorado Club listings, all the clubs I've seen at tournaments are represented. Mile High Fencing and Colorado Fencing Academy are also right in near you. (I only rarely see CFA-affiliated people fencing anything but sabre at tournaments; I'm not sure if they even do foil or epee.)
I havn't seen a CO division event that wasn't free to watch. Worst case you'll have to tell someone at a door you're there for the tournament.
If you get there and you're utterly confused, feel free to ask someone with a CU patch on. We're all pretty relaxed folks. |

| For Epee I would drive up to Northern Colorado Fencers in Boulder. They have some very good epee coaches from what I hear. It's not uncommon for people to drive an hour or more to go to a club. Just depends on where you live and the local fencing community.

Gary Copeland and Andrea Lagan are great coaches, and their resume speaks for itself.

| Denver Fencing, Cheyenne Fencing, and Northern Colorado Fencers are (in no particular order) the big epee places around here. |

| Colorado Fencing Academy - Arvada Hi, you can come check out our club if you want. I work in Aurora and CFA is only about 15min away even in traffic. Just take I70 to Wadsworth.
You didn't mention your weapon, but we only do Sabre. We have a great club. Great people, coach and a spectacular facility.
Here's our website: http://www.cofacademy.org
You can also shoot me an email of you have any questions. |

| Denver Fencing Center You can certain stop by and visit our Center. Due to the Regional Youth Circuit event on Sunday, we will be open every day this week. Check out our website: www.denverfencingcenter.com for more details. If you stop by this Sunday, you can talk to our coaches, parents, youth fencers, and our experience adult fencers who will be acting as referees and the bout committee.
We are a week and a half away from the start of both the youth and adult classes, including beginner classes. So it would be a good time to check us out. Our six week beginner class will introduce you to all three fencing weapons: foil, epee, and saber.
We have Youth and Adult fencers compete in all three weapons. If you stop by on any Open Fencing night, you will see fencers will all levels of ratings: 'A's, 'B's, 'C's, 'D's, 'E's and Unrated fencing. Mondays/Wednesdays are Epee/Saber and Tuesdays/Thursdays are Foil.
You can certain email me with any further questions.
Thanks.

| DFC = good reputation I am glad Nathan from DFC posted. I did
not mean to slight DFC by ommiting their
Youth tourni this weekend. My thinking
was that you could talk to a better
cross-section of fencers at a C and under,
than at a Youth tourni.
Through the grapevine, I have never heard a
bad thing about DFC, Nathan, or any coaches
working there. Also, do not under-estimate the
value of their strength with all weapons. It can
be fun and empowering to try other weapons.

| Welcome to the front range fencing scene! I'd recommend visiting each of the clubs as they all have their own unique character and class times differ.
I don't know where you are in Aurora, but if swinging down south on I-225 is in your area, you might find South Denver Fencing Academy convenient. (It's between Dry Creek and Arapahoe just west of I-25). That's where the C and under tournament is on the 7th. (It is not a youth tournament.) |

Thanks for the help fellas | I got to Cheyenne and NCF when I am in town for work, and both are really good places for epee. Cheyenne has Zach Cheris, Duncan Kenney, and a hoard of Iowas, though you have to get there for the early shift (like 4:30-6:30 or something?) to fence them. And if you can get Maciak(?), one of the coaches, to fence you, he is really good too. Thinking about it, though, I guess you are more looking fore a reliable crowd of newbies. They have a handful of those, too. If NCF is too far for you to drive (and maybe even if it isn't) Cheyenne is a really good choice for epee. You won't "grow out" of that club. |
