Interestingly enough at UMD the ballroom club practices in the gym right after us, so there are several fencer/ballroom dancers. Some have been fairly decent others not so much, regardless of overall fencing skill.

Personally speaking I have never tried ballroom, I did however take a ballet class while in college and nearly made the teacher cry. I can say without reservation that while I am fairly atheltic and an ok fencer, I am a terrible dancer.

My own theory on the matter is that dancing is about grace and timing, if you are a fencer who relies on pretty movements and nice timing dancing will come more easily to you. If otoh you are a fencer who relies on athleticism and timing disruption through movement, you're pretty screwed.

On another note I have had to break several ex-ballet people of ballet lunges as I teach them fencing footwork
What's the "real" world again? I don't think I can see it from my window

I would certainly put myself in the latter category, I'm telling you. for some people breaking time is just more natural than following it!

Jeebus, if you're ever in CT and Melihop makes you go dancing, feel free to drag me along.
