Rust on lame help...

Got this from one of my clients...have never had to deal with it myself....comments? It's a foil lame...but I don't know if he means the inside of hte lame for the rest stains.

"How do I fix a rust problem. i just read your spiel ,as per what the usfa said , which sounds really good but I think rust is a bit tougher. its not that serious, 4 or 5 dots on the ...CHEST * cough* area. after very close inspection, it appears to only be on the cloth portion."

It's rather common from what I've seen for lame cloth to pickup stains and such which don't affect the conductivity (for example, the printing of names on the back). Perhaps it's been hit with some rusty foils and the rust has rubbed off. Or maybe it's made from not so stainless steel. Hard to say without looking at it, or testing resistance.

Rust and blood are 2 hard things to get out of clothes. he could try an acid like lemon juice or vinegar. chemically speaking, the idea is to find a strong reducing agent. Good luck.

My wife used a powder called Bar Keepers Friend to get rust out of a sweatshirt. Don't know what it would do to the conductive part, try it on a scrap. Should be available in supermarkets or hardware stores. She used soaking and rubbing.
