See, I knew you were going to say that, and I asked anyway...because you didn't say "a country", you said "lots of countries". Implying that it was the norm, or at least that it was not a tiny deviation from the norm.
One country does not "lots" make. ( And I still suspect that if one went back far enough one could find some minor and ultimately meaningless incident. )

Many more than that come to MY mind. Nepal has been in the news just this week for the practice, for example. France. Mexico. Argentina.

Again you substitute phrasing for the original used, though in this case it's one that suggests a greater magnitude than I claimed, rather than one which inplies a lessening of the magnitude of your claim.
My phrase was not "all countries", but "just about every country"; and it was not present tense, but "somewhere in its past"....quite a different claim, I think you can see.
