    Mineral Rights

I just saw a movie, entitled: Heart of GOld a concert film of Neil Youngs music, which I really enjoyed; and it occured to me the the American Indian people, with whom I know several and grew up with someone who taught me lots of their stuff; it occurred to me that the word Gold meant Mineral; and that the people may have some luck searching for mineral rights under their homelands. What do you think? See you all in the other thread.

I think I don't understand where you are going with this thread. Could you please restate the question?

Are you wondering whether Native Americans would be likely to find gold on reservation land?

If so, the answer varies from reservation to reservation. And those with gold deposits already do have mining operations.

My point is that I wasn't sure if you are referring to mineral rights on Native American reservations or in general. On the reservation the land and everything below it belongs to the tribe and if somebody wants to mine on the reservation then they must pay the tribe for the right. Outside of the reservation if a person does not specifically purchase the mineral rights for the property they own a company can legally come onto their property to explore/mine even if the "owner" does not want them there. That is the way the law is and a lot of people don't realize that.

So you're saying that you were listening to the Neil Young song "Heart of Gold", and "gold" made you think of the word "mineral", which caused you to think about American Indians looking for mineral rights under their reservations. Ok, great story, thanks.

I would be willing to wager that Neil Young was pretty high when he wrote that song, and it turned out fairly good.

Depends on your definition of "good", now, doesn't it?

Neil Young is included in my definition of good. As in, "That was a nice lunge you did, but not as good as Neil Young."

To each his own; Neil Young is included in my definition of a smoldering pile of crap.

Well then, I seriously doubt your tastes in music, but what perchance might you consider to be good.

I also get little enjoyment from listening to Neil Young, at least his older stuff (haven't heard his new stuff, so refraining from judgment there).

I'm not sure why I can't get into his music. My tastes are very eclectic.

I can understand why people don't like him, but a steaming pile of crap, no. Some songs to listen to if you haven't heard them:

    Cortez the Killer
    I am a Child
The Needle and the Damage Done
    My My, Hey Hey
    F**kin Up

Not to mention the influential work of his other bands,

    The Buffalo Springfield and CSNY

I, too, like Neil Young's music.

I would definetly add "After the Gold Rush" to that list of his songs worth hearing. I'd say it's one of my favourite songs.

    You forgot washed-up.

Having to to entitle a song "Let's Impeach the President" just to get someone to notice he is still kicking about has clearly jumped the shark. Like a couple of decades ago.

Most of his fans are probably republicans now, so lets see how well this chartbuster does.

"It's better to burn out than just fade away".....hmm. Maybe he should take hs own advice. Keep fading Neil, please, just keep fading.
