Fencing in Monterey, California?

Hi Folks,

We are relocating to the Monterey Bay area and I am PRAYING that there is an active fencing community down there.

ANY information about local area clubs, salles, classes, private instructors or ANYthing would be very much appreciated.

Thank you!!

- Jason

There was a small group of mostly recreational fencers that met at the YMCA in Monterey. I know San Jose has fencing and I heard there was a small group in Santa Cruz but never saw them.
I was last there in 2000 so this may have all changed of course.

Santa Cruz has a thriving and competent group of fencers. San Jose is too far from Monterey (as is Santa Cruz, to a degree) to be a reasonable drive for fencing. That said, SJ has The Fencing Center, California Fencing Academy, and Salle DeCesare (actually Sunnyvale, but what's another 10 miles?).

Suggest contacting Salle Santa Cruz and I'm not sure of all the inter-connections but Eric Hansen was coaching at the University of Santa Cruz recently. Not sure of his current status. May have heard that he may be transitioning to Southern Calif either to train or coach.

Daniel Silvernail will become famous soon enough
Salle Santa Cruz

Yes, our current coach Salle Santa Cruz IS Eric Hansen and he will be leaving us shortly for So.Cal. We will miss him much: we were much spoiled. We are currently and actively searching for our replacement coach.
