Why are American Brewers so 1337?

Is there a connection between the excellent showing for teh U.S. in Korea and in Seattle? American Brewers Press Release

Can it be teh U.S. is just so much better?

    But.... how many?

But much more important - how many of the winning beers have you had?

If you count the top 3 places, I figure I've had ~78 of the listed beers, or roughly 1/3. It lists several of my favorite breweries (Dogfish Head, Goose Island, Rogue, Russian River, Ommegang) but misses some of my absolute favorite beers. I became a huge fan of Kwak while I was in Belgium. Plus a number of my favorite English, Scottish, and Irish breweries are missing.

Americans, now that they've discovered "micro breweries", now make a wide variety of beers, some of which are very good. My problem is that so many of them have such a narrow distribution that its hard to get them. Plus I love Belgian Ales and Irish Stouts... and really, they're not done as well on this side of the pond.

For some reason, I've never been a big fan of most Pils or Hefeweizen type beers. I really have to be in the mood for them. I did find it funny that there were separate categories for American Style Wheat Beer and American Style Hefeweizen.

End of the story - I need to find more beer and drink it....

I've found it very difficult to get a decent Hefeweizen or Pils in the US.

US microbreweries (or specialty breweries, since you can hardly claim the Boston Beer Company is a microbrewery) brew exceptional ales--far better than most English ales, IMNSHO. Nice to see that Fullers ESB won a gold though. The Americans also brew some great seasonal beers, particularly Christmas beers, with spices.

I've not drunk any Scottish ales, but I have friends who swear to me that they are generally superior to English beers. (Nod to Gav)
Why sabre? Because you don't take heads with the point.
