    frowning at the instructor

    I'm being serious now. How can I get more serious about my fencing.

    Yeah, I need to be more serious about my fencing too. I keep giggling during practices. But they're hilarious!

    Like my instructor backing into a pole during footwork..

    I'd probably be a better fencer if I didn't goof off. Last in class tournament, I got a -9.

    Do you receive lessons? One of the ways to show your master/coach how serious you are is to use your newly learned skills during your practice bouts. One of the things I had to get over is the idea of winning the bouts fenced during practices.

    I was gently scoulded by the coach's coach for not practicing what he taught me during a practice bout and I realized that if I was going to improve, I would have to concentrate on using the skills he taught me in these practice bouts!

    Okay, serious, meaning: while i'm fencing someone during a competition, i tend to tune out mid-way which means that i'm not being serious. In fact, just today on the telephone, I was speaking with someone about a client who sub-texts all the time. I'm guessing we all sub-text, but I'd like to do it a little less while I'm in the middle of a bout.
