"Sabre - impact absorbing thumb pad"

I saw this item in the fencing.net store and remembered banging my thumb once or twice against an overly aggressive opponent who kept attacking into my attacks and hitting his guard up against mine.

Has anyone purchased it? Would you recommend it?

I'm sure it's a very nice pad, but I think my leather Estoc one or one of the thicker felt ones would probably do about as nicely.

Perhaps it could be nice, I doubt it'd make too much of a difference. In my opinion of somone is having major issues with thumb-to-guard impact, they are holding the sabre a little bit too far up.

Problem with the pad from the picture is it thicker then the 2cm stated in the rules for the thickness of the pads

I use it on my weapons, it's not thicker than 2cm (it's about 1 and a bit), and haven't had any problems with my thumb and clashes of guards. There have been at least one or two that I can remember where I think the pad has made the difference between a throbbing thumb and no pain at all

Then again I don't know if I'd specifically go out to buy one. The ones I have I got as I was buying a complete weapon.

I make a leather bell pad that has two layers of the highest quality leather and padding in the middle is very durable. Not felt that crushes and becomess useless after a few years. My pads are $12 each and about a centimeter thick. I have about 5 made now for an epee but should work on a sabre. I will post some pics a little later after I upload them.

I also make custom leather bell guards pad about 1 cm thick for 7.00 a pad.I can design one for sabre as well. We can even put your intials in it for 1.00 more and we ofter it in several different colors.
