| Thank you for the excellent recap. I look forward to the video so we can have our own assessment of the referee. (Not saying you're wrong. Just want to know what percentage were right.) |

| I'm also interested in examining the video when we get home. I'd like to see a point by point recap of the scoring in slo-mo (is there any more appropriate way?) to see if it was as bad as it seemed at the time.
It was also interesting seeing all the gesticulating and arm waving and headshaking among the FIE hoi-polloi observing the bout from the VIP seats.

I must agree. I admit I'm a little biased towards epee, but Graham's fencing was so strong it made me want to put my camera down and just watch ... (a luxury I can ill-afford) ... |

| I saw that. Too bad about Gerek Meinhardt, losing 15-13 in the 16. |

| All Americans but Courtney Hurley out for today. DeSmet in the 8 (he'll place 7th, the 1 and 2 seeds also lost in that round), Brandfield-Harvey and Scanlan in the 64. |

On the final day of the Cadet World Fencing Championships individual events, the United States added to its medal count and is leading all nations.
Courtney Hurley took a 12th place seed after the preliminary rounds and spun it into gold as she dominated her first two direct elimination matches by a score of 15-5 against #53 Gabrielle Lavoie of Canada and #21 Abbi Matthews of England. She use that momentum to eek out a 14-13 match, breaking seed against Italy's Guilia Rizzi who was ranked #5 going into the elimination rounds.
Once into the final 8, Hurley defeated German cadet Leila-Annett Kummer 15-11 and then faced another close match against Katarzyna Dabrowa (POL), and pulling it out at 15-14. In the final bout Hurley drew #2 seed Josephine Jacques Andre Coquin and won the match 15-12.

| Congratulations to Courtney Hurley!
I'm happy that Giulia put up a good match against her, as Carol did against the French Coquin.
I'll have to ask Marta what went wrong when she comes back... a lot of people consider her to be the best of the WE Italian cadet team. |

| Maybe being italian just isnt good enough.
With that said, the italian success at the senior level is way beyond that of the US, but our cadets and juniors shred yours.

Clearly not geography... |

| Thanks for checking.
Strange. I can load virtually any other web site I can think of, except for usfencing. It keeps coming up with a "problem loading page" message. I've tried it in IE as well as Firefox. But nothing seems to get it to load. |
