God, I can't stand that church of scientology, and I'm Italian too... so here almost no one follows that stupid stuff. If I was American I'd probably freak out with all those people following the cult of scientology. | |

| There really aren't alot of people here who follow it. Before I moved to Austin for college I had never met any (at least who admitted it) and besides the people I walk by at the church, I haven't met any here, either.

| The "Cult" is one of the worst of the so-called New religions. I haranged our local bunch of loons one weekend when they set up a stall promoting a "stress test". They looked a bit embarassed when a crowd started to gather. For such a well trained bunch of comedians they don't really know how to deal with hecklers. Unfortunately they still set up their stall, every Saturday, but at least they look worried when they see me walk past (I live locally and they are on my route to the centre of town). Why are they called "Scientology" when they are clearly not in favour of science?
I read somewhere that Hubbard started the cult after taking a bet with someone. Don't know how apocryphal that story is but, if true, speaks volumes for his followers. I'm slightly surprised that we appear to have none on the board - or at least none who are [so far] willing to put their head above the parapet.

- fanaticism
- violence

- loss of freedom for someone (or anyone)
- divisions and categories (example: I'm one of those who'll be saved, you are not. Another example: I'm a man, and my god says being a man is cool. You are a women, and my god hates women.)
