Meh, there just aren't all that many scientologists out there. ~55,000 in the US, 65,000 worldwide according to brief Googling (so I wouldn't rely too heavily on those numbers). Figure that's less than .019% of the US population. With 25,000 USFA members we'd expect ~4.7 of them to be Scientologists if the fencing population reflects the general population (which it clearly does not, likely even in terms of religious make-up). With ~8000 f.net members we're talking ~1.6 scientologists. How many people have seen this thread? 180 views? Assuming that those are all unique visitors (they aren't) we'd expect about a 3.4% chance that one of those viewers was a scientologist. And then you'd need the scientologist to get offended. And to post.
Not much in the thread title to specifically pull Scientologists in (or for that matter make them avoid the thread).
I don't believe that they have special powers that allow them to know when they are called to every internet board within 24 hours. Not sure why anyone WOULD expect such a post here.

Play any of those cards and you can almost guarantee that hundreds, if not thousands will jump on the band-wagon.
On a less serious note, could you please start with Tom Cruise?

| In the late 70's, while still a nerdy high school student, I answered a few survey questions while shopping one day. My mother still occasionally recieves mail addressed to me from the Church of Scientology.
They may be small in number, but they are very persistent.

Lots of barely-founded assumptions that simplify the math thrown together with some basic percentages. Doesn't show ANY knowledge of how statistics (or probability, for that matter) actually work.

Funny thing about threats in writing and even in public - ESPECIALLY in this environment of open access to private information (Big Brother is Watching You.) - you can't say things like that without potential consequences. Authorities are taking actions and investigating, even the sarcastic and inane. |

| Ehhhh, off topic but....No comment about the Duke debacle itself, but really the nature of the McFayden comment warrants investigation. I mean had DFP not said what he did, which was flippant, general and clearly labeled as sarcasm, and instead said something about finding a scientologist, skinning them and commiting murder in a specific way while ejaculating in his Fnet issued spandex shorts I'd be equally disturbed and probably want him to be investigated a bit too. Might just be me though....

The Scientologist sent down millions in mental health medications, and even set up a mental health clinic.
(Sarcasm off)
I think they were the only "religious organization" that I did not see helping out.
