Special glue for blades, is this real? I would just like to point out that I have only been fencing for about 5 months now and I really don't know if this person was just pulling my chain or not. Anyway, I was at the Purdue Open here in West Lafayette, IN, when I saw this gentleman around the age of 27 or so rubbing this, what almost looked like a glue, on his epee. Me, being the curious type of person I am, walked over and introduced myself. I then changed the subject to this rather odd looking glue he was rubbing on his sword. He told me that if you rubbed this glue into your blade , after time it would absorb into the metal and allows your blade to be more flexable and bend more. I also thought I heard one of the other fencers there talking about how he was waiting for something to dry before he used his blade. I don't know if this guy was just kidding around with me, but if not, what is this glue like stuff he was rubbing into his blade? and if it is real, is it legal to use during bouts?

I have never heard of anything vaguely resembling something you'd "rub on" to your blade ot make it more flexible.
I have heard people encourage "warming the blade up" with friction, but that involved no glue. I have seen people reglue the wires into their blade between bouts. I have not seen what you describe. -

Array But have you heard of the hammer test? Recently bought a mask for a fellow clubmember, a beginner. Before I handed it over to her I patiently explained that the MdA in each salle was charged with submitting every new mask to an FIE hammer test because of insurance reasons, that the test cost 10 euros, and it would be about a week before she got her mask back. She's a sweet, gullible person, so off she went to ask our MdA.... -
I wonder if we could get Dan DeChaine to tell Mergs that we're moving to a 120 Kg punch test, and could he please manufacture the necessary apparatus? -

Now accepting preorders for 800N FIE2007 spray! 10 percent discount! Garauntee that your equipment will be up-to-date and in conformity with future standards!

Array Unless this guy was fencing with Aladdin's lamp, I can not think of any reason for him to be 'rubbing' glue on his blade. -

Array Are you sure it wasn't just him using a towel to warm the blade up before using it? The Stalwart Panda
