| AH! an opportunity for y'all! Hokay, if you remember i started a thread a little while back asking for advice on etching on my sword. i bought a dremmel for 20 bucks at the hardware store and took matters into my own hands and just put stuff on the bellguard and blade of my practice foil.
since it IS a practice foil, i just consider this work PRACTICE and with time i'll get better but i was wondering if there was anyone interested in having any of their stuff etched?
if not, whatever. sit back and enjoy.
sorry for the bad pictures.

| Any chance you could post a picture from a bit closer up on the guard? Perhaps even disassemble the weapon again and post a pic of just the guard? Bit hard to see it at the angle/distance in the pictures here.

| This sort of work is good for decorative pieces, and I suppose people who to be flash, but you are going to have a problem with weapons that are heavily used as [inevitably] the etched surface will get damaged.
Looks like nice work though. |

My sabre guard is pretty close to not etchable. Too many scratches.
Nice work though
Distance parrys not blade work will keep it nice and shiny looking

well it has already been messed up from a few bouts but its all stuff that i've been able to buff out. nothing a little elbow greese can't fix.

| Color Sharpies conduct pretty well so those could work, but they do rub/scratch off. Personally I like the etched metal look, I wouldn't ruin it with color.

| yeah i was thinking of buying an epee because the guards are sooooooo big, and just doing a masterpiece on it, and keeping it around for looks, BUT i'm not so fortunate as far as money goes so no dice on that haha. think anyone on ebay would want one?

| Actually there's a girl that fences in Atlanta that has the most awesome bell guard ever! I don't think I've ever captured it on film, but I'll look through my stuff to see if I have a picture of it. Alternately I'm pretty sure she/her coach/clubmates (which Craig is one of) read fNet so they might be able to scrounge up one.

| Thor,
What is the metal type on the guards, will this be "doable" on alum or steel or both? I remember a beautiful pair of dueling swords I saw one time as an award that were in a wood box with a cover. Very cool. I still think as an award or a display, one or two of these would be great. How about two matching epees, mounted, as a "dueling kit" to sell. Try and give us some idea of what you'd like to get for your work.

| i'm wondering if it's possible to acid-etch the guard instead of a dremel? this may allow more intricate designs.

| i dont know what the guards are made of, but they're made of stuff that is simi durable but if you get a good smack of another type of metal on it, it will dent.
as for stuff that i'd want to work on, ive really been thinking about what stuff i'd want to etch and all i could think of was guards, grips and blades.....then i realized that those are the main elements of the weapon. so, most likely i'd buy a bunch of bellguards, do those, sell them, then buy a bunch of blades, etch those, sell them, buy some grips and then sell those again. iono.
