Array The Weakest Link I've just watched an episode of the american Weakest Link and I was just wondering what my fencing chums make of the most hated women on British TV? -

Array What do I think about her?
I don't.
I watched about a minute of that show once. Decided to never do it again.

Array I think she is an actress who is doing her job very well because everybody loves to hate her. CAUTION: The heart is a fragile thing. Handle with care. -
I hate the show, she's not mean enough. I'm serious, I can't stand how lax she is. The people deserve to be made fun of - most of them are idiots! Oh well, at least she's better than Regis.

From the one episode I watched--
A strange combination: the general physical appearance of Julie Andrews, the personality of Margaret Thatcher.
On those instances when I veg out and watch a quiz show, I prefer Ben Stein-- if nothing else, his show's not as ridiculously pretentious as _Link_ or _Millionare_, and has better questions, to boot.

Array Yeah, but it's not the same since Jimmy isn't on Stein anymore. Whatever doesn't kill you, is gonna leave a scar...
Looking for a certain Striptease...... -
ANNE ROBINSON ROCKS!!
(yes, she is considered a goth icon!)
I reckon she's pretty light on the American contestants.
I've applied for that show myself. Still waiting.
Steve.

Array I think she's great. Those whining little twits deserve her poisoned tongue!

Array Anne Robinson is brillant. She is WAAAAY better then the read haired ***** we have on the Australian Weakest link. Cornelia Frances just doesnt have the right "bite"! Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls! -
Neevel, I've always respected you because of the plethora of information that your posts contain. With your post of Ben Stein, you've showed that you have taste (well that, and with the favorite drink thread, but I'm not sopposed to know that... )
Ben Stein is the ONLY intelligent game show host out there. True, it's not the same without Jimmy, and I deplore Stein's politics, but he knows the stuff!

Array Urgh! Just got scary mental image of Anne Robinson completely gothed up. Thanks Steve.
I don't think she is tough enough on the US contestants - certainly not as tough as in the UK version. Or maybe it is just that brits have seen more of her on tv and learned to fear her. I wish I could think of something witty to write here. -

No problem. Any time.
Annie is just too cool. -

U.S. broadcast networks have a history of cribbing harder-edged shows from the U.K. and then softening them up for Stateside consumption-- they seem to be afraid of anything that's 'too tough' and might possibly ailenate some of their all-important advertising demographics. I remember when ABC made an attempt at importing 'Spitting Image' back in the '80's-- it was a pathetic, declawed, toothless simulacrum of the original.

Array I dislike her and the show. I couldn't watch more than a few minutes the first time. -

Array Yeah, neevel, I figured as much. Are there many shows imported from the UK? Can't be as many as the US sitcoms we get over here. I wish I could think of something witty to write here. -

Yeah, there are quite a few... Weakest Link, Whose line is it anyway (hosted by Drew Carrey), Survivor (which I take was called Castaway over in the UK), Junkyard Wars (original version was calles Scrapheap Challenge I believe) and I am sure there are quite a few more out there that I haven't seen yet.
On a related note, I believe there are plans to make a US version of Fawlty Towers...
I still praise the powers that be for BBC America, since they show Monty Python every weekday from 6:40 to 8:00 EST.

Array Battlebots. The original (and much better show) was Robot Wars.

Array A US version of Fawlty Towers...
I'm not sure I would be able to watch it the same way if it didn't have John Cleese in it. I wish I could think of something witty to write here. -
Yup... 2 full episodes of my favorite comedy Monday through Friday! The only problem is that I work until 6:00-6:30... and I have a 30min+ drive... I usually only catch the tail end of the first one...
But still, I love it... Marc
