... when it's weird to go to a pub without fencing first.
... when people hear you're a fencer and twist their other hand up poking you with the other -- you parry the poke before you know what you're doing. If your brain kicks in before your reposte arrives, you know you're a good fencer

| You go take dancing lessons, and after 1/2 hour you get kicked out of the class because all you're doing is fencing footwork and you don't know how to get your legs to do something else.

| I had to leave work a bit early yesterday, and since it was raining I was carrying an umbrella. As I left my boss waved (I had told him I was leaving). And instead of waving back, I swung the umbrella up in a salute...
At least I overcame my instinct to lunge and hit on the elevator button in the hall with the umbrella tip .... |

| Severity of injuries to depend on whether it affects your fencing.
“Did that dog just bite your arm?” “Yeah, but it’s okay, it wasn’t my fencing arm”.

| Or when you launder your clothes, you make sure that your jacket, plastron and knickers are hanging in a prime spot where they can dry first. |

| ...you riposte to insults.
...you do footwork while waiting.
...you feint-disengage the cat. Repeatedly.
...you feint-disengage the dog. Repeatedly.
...you do bladework with your pen/pencil.
...you surf F.NET during work.

You fence all the time, even in your dreams.

| You dream about the insidious epeeist on fNet plotting to ruin your precious, precious foil. I had that dream a few nights ago.

| You know that jerk awake that happens sometimes as you fall to sleep? Well now when it happens, you shoot your arm out.

EDIT: I used to spend most weekends over at a friend's house and his guest bed was pressed against the wall... I used to always jam my toes into the wall when I would kick. I've also kicked my way off of several couches- now instead of sleeping on couches I just make pallets on the floor.

| One of my students, who is also my student at the fencing salle, went to the board to write something yesterday. He lunged after the dry erase marker. Yes! It's rubbing off on him too!

| YKYAFW:
You're in the mob to catch the garter at a friend's wedding, and the photog catches you reaching out for it via a lunge....
(I DID catch it, in fact! The bride ended up being our matron of honor at MY wedding! The fact that my wife-to-be had caught the bouquet earlier garnered cries of "FIX! FIX! FIX!") |
