    USACFC Review

Guess I will start this one to see where it goes, if for no other reason I am likely one of the few home AND awake.

I was one of the many refs there and actually had a good time. Met lots of great people and had lots of fun. Not much bad drama which was good but lots of good, competitive drama.

I am sure lots of people have lots of good stories, and will likely be shared in this forum.

    Ready...go...

Very loud gyms, lots of refs, lots of refs, as far as I know no serious equipment issues, two great armourers, a vendor(Leon Paul), and the Clemson kids who weren't fencing who did a great job getting out and receiving team sheets and putting together results. I'm sure there will be more later but this is a start.

I'm glad to hear that we did a good job (the Clemson team who wasn't fencing). I was seriously worried that we were being a bother to you guys.

There were a few snags... like having to hand write every score card for U. of Michigan, but overall I feel like the event ran smoothly. I look forward to hearing some feedback from the schools who attended.

I had this in the USACFC Club Nationals thread, but it didn't fit, and this thread hadn't been created yet.

Fourteen hours straight working at a tournament will teach you a lot. I made a post a while back about how a tournament I was a spectator at was organized. I still agree with myself, but OH BOY HAS MY PERSPECTIVE CHANGED. Also, I'm certainly not singing my own praises, there were people there that worked a lot harder than me, and I'm by no means now filled will massive amounts of experience with how fencing tournaments are run. However, I did manage to get a look from Noodle that wasn't "why are you here and in my presence" for the first time this weekend.

Guess I just gave up my anonymity, eh.
    -------------------------------------------------
Also, I ditto little_old_me. I'm curious to hear what people have to say when they actually get home and get caught up on sleep. Also, thoughts on the national anthem?

Daylight savings time kinda threw some kinks in. I overslept, despite reminders from Bruce and Mitchell... Thus, I realized at what I thought was 6:15 that it was actually 7:15 and I had to be at Fike ready to sing in 30 minutes. Whew.

Anyways... it's naptime for me... I have missed sleep to make up as I'm sure quite a few of you do too.

As to the event - It was great, though long. We had to cut out early on Sunday but we were kept very busy with rewires and weapon builds.

All of the fencers were great and I love the atmosphere of a collegiate tournament. Reminded me of all the things that I liked about fencing in dual meets at UNC.

Speaking of - got to see Coach and some of the UNC crowd. One of my teammates was reffing but I didn't see him until the second day since they were keeping him in the other room.

It was fun - I just didn't get time to talk to more fencing.netters while there.

    Cheers,
    Craig

You probably saw me, Tall skinny blonde guy with glasses who was at the bout committee table all day... I bought some Shoes from either you or the other guy working with you. I think it was the other guy. Either way, I tried to correct people when they called you "the Leon Paul Guys". Had to represent F-net. I love the shoes, by the way. Most grip I've ever had.

UNH made it back at 7:30PM. We left after Women's foil was over. At 10:30PM Sunday. We got caught in D.C. traffic.

Luckily I had the tripple seat at the back of th bus. Conveinatly close to the bathroom and enough room to semi comfortably lie down and sleep. but I'm still wiped. Coach says next year their flying for sure. Gonna have to fund raise their asses off.

Thanks. The tape kept giving way and we couldn't keep our sign up.

Nice event - you all did a good job. Like the shirts too.

That. is. awsome. Can we make it at Smith AND not on the same weekend as DST?

And I'm sure you could turn running a tournament into some application of game theory.

you could have asked me for some duct tape. Umass's banner had no problem staying up with my duct tape.

Smith's banner, however, had issues staying up, as certain members of the Umass team failed to get the memo that stealing the Smith flag and then doing nothing with it is getting boring.

What's interesting is that Club Nationals is always the same weekend as Smith's SciFi/Fantasy Con. This shouldn't interfere with anything, as it's mostly regional people coming (no hotel rooms used) and there aren't any facilities that they use that we would want to use. What it might mean is that anyone who's bored and not currently fencing could, perhaps, engage in the Boffing tournament they run.......

btw MP I don't recall actually seeing the mini-skirt at all...I did however see an amazingly large number of Fnet folks and probably talked to more than are aware of it. As I 'm still rather tired and hence probably not prone to giving fair assessments right now I won't comment on the tournament itself (other than to say a different format will be needed if this number of teams is seen next year). It was nice to see a lot of good-natured competition and even a few squads here and there that could easily have been varsity teams.

Hmmm..... I should look into familiarizing myself with its rules. Marketability, marketability, marketability....

Just sit back, breathe, and follow these simple steps:

DST is moving to avoid club nationals.

seriously, though, next year (and every year after for the forseeable future), DST will be the second weekend in March.

since the format's going to be changing quite drastically next year, i can't really give any solid information on how to run it.

Next year is Texas, flying from UNH and most East Coast schools will be flying I think. Hooray for fundraising (and southwest).
What's the "real" world again? I don't think I can see it from my window
