I'm sure you've heard of this one already Cyranox11.
My birthday is on April 1 and it just happened that at my first ever Junior World Champs I had to fence on that day.
After doing horribly, that night the team manager called me in for a disciplinary meeting. He proceeded to lecture me about referees complaining and bad behaviour etc. Just as I was melting with shame, the rest of the team jumped out with a cake yelling "April Fools" and "Happy Birthday"
That is one bithday I will never forget!
Someone at a club I go to very convincingly told our coach that he had been training at a rival club (that our coach isn't very fond of) for the past month and that today was his last day here. Got him pretty good.
Yeah, my friends and family played this great joke on me.
They held an intervention and lectured me on how fencing doesn't have any practical use in life, how I'm just wasting my money, and how my time would have been much better spent on school, work, and family. And they stressed that the worst part is I'm not doing anything to change that -- just digging the hole deeper.

I get invited to ref at a last-minute scheduled event, report to the designated area for a referee meeting... and there's no tournament. Instead, all my refereeing friends are waiting, seated in a big circle.... FOC locks the door behind me, and armourers guard all the exits.
And then they start to talk about how concerned they are about my addiction to refereeing, that it's ok to talk about it, and that they'll still be my friends if I skip a NAC or two every once in a while....
I'm gonna have a nightmare tonight.

Thanks for the stories, yes BoutAfrica I had heard it before, but its still a classic!
I got my teammate a real good one this year.
Called him on Saturday morning saying that he had to bring his lexan mask to training along with $150 as the fie had ordered a recall of all lexan masks due to safety concerns.
We told him that we had to pay for the masks to be couriered to France that day for testing and that should they fail the new test they would be destroyed without compensation.
If they passed, then we would have to pay for them to be couriered back to us.
He believed me!
It was brilliant he was planning to sue Roche (maybe we should get him and Allan together)....
PS BoutAfrica Good luck for Junior Worlds we are all thinking positive thoughts for you guys!
